Regular Season Round 10: Mazatlan - Culiacan 86-107
Date: May 7, 2022
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Mazatlan where 7th ranked Venados (7-13) were rolled over by bottom-ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (4-16) 107-86 on Saturday. Caballeros de Culiacan shot 60.3 percent from the field and made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. They shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 56.0 percentage. American Sam Daniel (203-1996, college: Florida Tech) fired 26 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. The other American import power forward Tony Criswell (205-1991, college: Missouri) chipped in 26 points. Criswell is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American forward Joshua Ramirez (198-1994, college: Dominican, CA) produced 31 points (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) and the former international point guard Ricardo Calatayud (183-1992) added 14 points respectively for lost side. Four Venados players scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Caballeros de Culiacan maintains eighth position with 4-16 record. Venados lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with 13 games lost. Caballeros de Culiacan will meet at home higher ranked Pioneros Los Mochis (#3) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Venados will play against the league's leader Astros (#1) having rather not much hope for a victory.
