Not a big story in a game when 5th ranked Indios (5-9) lost to third ranked Capitanes (8-5) in Arecibo 92-99 on Wednesday. Capitanes shot 60.3 percent from the field and made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. Capitanes outrebounded Indios 33-21 including a 26-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for Nigerian-American power forward Chinemelu Elonu (206-1987, college: Texas A&M) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Dominican Victor Liz (193-1986) accounted for 27 points for the winning side. Capitanes' coach Rafael Cruz used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Davon Jefferson (203-1986, college: USC) came up with 27 points and 7 rebounds and the other American import point guard Dwight Buycks (191-1989, college: Marquette) added 23 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively for Indios in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Defending champion maintains third place with 8-5 record having just two point less than leader Quebradillas. Loser Indios keep the fifth position with nine games lost. Capitanes will meet league's leader Vaqueros in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Indios will play against Brujos (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
