Regular Season Round 12: Los Mochis - Mazatlan 99-97

Seventh-ranked Venados (9-15) were very close to win a game against second ranked Pioneros Los Mochis (15-9) on Wednesday. Pioneros Los Mochis managed to secure only two-point victory 99-97. However their fans expected much easier game. Pioneros Los Mochis dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Venados' 32. Pioneros Los Mochis forced 19 Venados turnovers and had a 19-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. 25 personal fouls committed by Venados helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for Swiss point guard Jordan Stevens (182-1994, college: Midwestern St.) who led his team to a victory with 36 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 5 assists. American Anthony Johnson (203-1988, college: Fairfield) contributed with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Pioneros Los Mochis' coach Guillermo Vecchio used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American guard Decensae White (198-1988, college: SF State) replied with 23 points and 4 assists and his fellow American import Jermont Horton (198-1984, college: RU Newark) added 20 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) in the effort for Venados. Four Venados players scored in double figures. Pioneros Los Mochis maintains second position with 15-9 record having just two points less than leader Astros, which they share with Hermosillo. Venados at the other side keep the seventh place with 15 games lost. Pioneros Los Mochis is looking forward to face Ostioneros de Guaymas (#6) on the road in the next round. Venados will play against Tijuana Zonkeys and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
