Regular Season Round 4: Yale - Paysandu 78-40
Date: May 21, 2022
Rather predictable result when ninth ranked Yale (2-2) rolled over bottom-ranked Paysandu (0-4) in Montevideo 78-40 on Saturday. Yale held Paysandu to an opponent 23.9 percent shooting from the field compared to 34.4 percent accuracy of the winners. Yale forced 32 Paysandu turnovers and outrebounded them 54-33 including a 23-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Paysandu's players. The winners were led by Argentinian guard Laila Raviolo (180-2000) who had that evening a triple-double by scoring 13 points, 15 rebounds and 11 assists and Luciana Chagas (174-2002) supported her with 20 points and 5 steals. Even 7 points and 8 rebounds by the former international point guard Sofia Nilson (-1997) did not help to save the game for Paysandu. Estefany Da Silva (-1985) added 13 points for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Yale moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Newly promoted Paysandu still closes the standings with four games lost. They share the position with Juventud and Urunday. Yale will meet higher ranked Aguada (#3) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Paysandu will play against Juventud (#10) and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
