Very important is a road loss of first ranked Racers (2-20) against fourth ranked Lobas (17-7) on Sunday night. Visiting Racers unexpectedly were crushed by in Ciudad de Mexico 58-116. Lobas dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Racers' 38. Lobas forced 31 Racers turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Racers' players. American forward Alexus Johnson (188-1994, college: Texas Southern) notched 22 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort and Puerto Rican Andrea Medina (169-1992) supported her with 22 points and 8 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Five Lobas players scored in double figures. Lobas' coach Israel Zermeno felt very confident using entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 15 points and 4 assists by point guard Daniela Escamilla did not help to save the game for Racers. Ecuadorian point guard Leyda Macias (165-1983) added 9 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the guests. Lobas have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to third place. Racers lost sixth consecutive game. Newly promoted team still keep top position with 20 games lost. Lobas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Racers will play against Atleticas and hope to get back on the winning track.
