Regular Season Round 5: Montevideo - Malvin 31-111
Date: May 29, 2022
Another exciting game was again a derby between two local teams from Montevideo: Malvin (#4) and Montevideo (#8). Montevideo was crushed at home by 80 points 31-111 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Malvin dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Montevideo's 16. Malvin forced 43 Montevideo turnovers and outrebounded them 36-21 including a 13-0 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 37 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Montevideo's players. The best player for the winners was the former international Florencia Somma (175-1988) who scored 23 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). The former international point guard Fiorella Martinelli (165-1985) chipped in 17 points, 7 assists and 6 steals. Five Malvin players scored in double figures. Forward Victoria Cardone (160-1994) produced 11 points and forward Florencia Mier (167-1992) added 5 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Malvin (4-1) keeps a position of league leader, which they share with 3 other teams. Montevideo at the other side keeps the eighth place with three games lost. They share the position with Yale. Malvin's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Montevideo Lagomar.
