Not a big story in a game in Vina del Mar where 4th placed Leones (2-3) were rolled over by second ranked Gimnastico (4-1) 107-38 on Saturday. Gimnastico held Leones to an opponent 19.3 percent shooting from the field compared to 46.7 percent accuracy of the winners. Gimnastico forced 33 Leones turnovers and outrebounded them 58-35 including a 20-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international center Catalina Abuyeres (182-1997) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 16 rebounds. Forward Vania Vega (173-2003) chipped in 20 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Five Gimnastico players scored in double figures. The former international forward Francisca Rojas (176-1993, college: Boston Coll.) produced 13 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Constanza Roco (-1996) added 6 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Gimnastico maintains second place with 4-1 record having thirteen points less than leader Conce, which they share with Ceb Puerto Montt. Loser Leones keep the fourth position with three games lost. They share it with Univ. Austral. Gimnastico will meet New Crusaders (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Leones will play against Estrella del Sur and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
