Regular Season Round 22: Arecibo - Carolina 102-94
Date: June 14, 2022
The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Capitanes as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Capitanes defeated 5th ranked Gigantes in Arecibo 102-94. They outrebounded Gigantes 40-29 including 17 on the offensive glass. Capitanes players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. Dominican Victor Liz (193-1986) notched 29 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of his nine free throws !!!) to lead the effort and naturalized U.S. Virgin Islands point guard Walter Hodge (183-1986, college: Florida) supported him with 22 points and 11 assists. Even a double-double of 18 points and 10 assists by American point guard Tremont Waters (180-1998, college: LSU) did not help to save the game for Gigantes. Nigerian power forward Alade Aminu (207-1987, college: Georgia Tech) added 16 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Capitanes have a solid three-game winning streak. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Gigantes lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fourth place with 16 games lost. They share the position with Guaynabo. Gigantes will play next round against league's leader Vaqueros trying to get back on the winning streak. Capitanes will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Leones at Juana Diaz.
