Regular Season Round 8: Malvin - Paysandu 119-39

Very expected game in Montevideo where 10th ranked Paysandu (1-7) was crushed by third ranked Malvin (6-2) 119-39 on Saturday. Malvin dominated down low during the game scoring 78 of its points in the paint compared to Paysandu's 26. Malvin forced 30 Paysandu turnovers and outrebounded them 41-29 including 16 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 40 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Paysandu's players. The best player for the winners was power forward Emilia Borges (184-2002) who scored 18 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. The former international Florencia Somma (175-1988) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 assists. Five Malvin players scored in double figures. Malvin's coach Juan Serdio felt very confident using 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Forward Fiorella Santostefano produced 6 points and 10 rebounds and center Karen Villamarin (-1985) added 10 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Malvin moved-up to second place, which they share with 25 de Agosto and D.Sporting. Paysandu lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the tenth position with seven games lost. They share it with Urunday. Malvin will meet league's leader Aguada on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Paysandu will play against the league's second-placed D.Sporting (#2) and hope to win that game.
