The game between closely ranked teams ended with ninth ranked Montevideo's (3-7) home victory over 10th ranked Paysandu (1-9) 57-44 on Sunday. Montevideo held Paysandu to an opponent 24.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 28.8 percent accuracy of the winners. Montevideo forced 24 Paysandu turnovers. Strangely Paysandu outrebounded Montevideo 61-41 including a 20-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Ariadna Sanchez (-2006) scored 22 points to lead the charge for the winners and Florencia Cardoso (-1999) chipped in 7 points and 13 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side point guard Sofia Nilson (-1997) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists and center Karen Villamarin (-1985) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 16 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Montevideo maintains ninth position with 3-7 record. Paysandu lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the tenth place with nine games lost. They share the position with Juventud and Urunday. Montevideo's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Montevideo Yale.
