Regular Season Round 14: UNITEP - Leones 68-94
Date: July 23, 2022
Very expected game when 8th ranked UNITEP (2-11) was crushed at home by second ranked Leones (10-3) 94-68 on Saturday. Leones dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to UNITEP's 28 and made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. Leones forced 27 UNITEP turnovers and had a 25-11 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American guard Thomas Cooper (196-1992, college: Calgary) who scored 46 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!). The former international point guard Ronald Arze (175-1993) chipped in 20 points. Four Leones players scored in double figures. Argentinian Nicolas Rodriguez produced 33 points (!!!) and 4 steals and center Diego Soto (-1986) added 8 points and 11 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Leones have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 10-3 record behind leader Pichincha. UNITEP lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with 11 games lost. Leones will meet at home Atomico (#4) in the next round. UNITEP will have a break next round.
