Regular Season Round 12: Gaiteros - Piratas 81-80

The most exciting game of round 12 in the SPB took place in Maracaibo. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of their close opponent Piratas (3-6) to fourth ranked Gaiteros (3-3) 81-80 in the game for the third place. Gaiteros forced 20 Piratas turnovers and outrebounded them 45-32 including a 21-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. 30 personal fouls committed by Piratas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of Senegalese center Serigne Barro (208-1995) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 24 points and 15 rebounds and American guard Elyjah Clark (190-1998, college: MSSU) who added 25 points during the contest. Gaiteros' coach Ricardo Gonzalez used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was American-Hungarian forward Damian Hollis (203-1988, college: GWU) with 19 points and 5 rebounds and South Sudanese-Lebanese center Ater Majok (210-1987, college: UConn) scored 14 points, 7 rebounds and 5 blocks. Four Piratas players scored in double figures. Gaiteros moved-up to third place. Newly promoted Piratas keep the fourth position with six games lost. Gaiteros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Piratas will play on the road against Brillantes (#4) in Caracas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
