Regular Season Round 17: Pichincha - La Salle 93-90

Sixth-ranked La Salle (7-7) gave a tough game to first ranked Pichincha (14-1) on Wednesday. Pichincha managed to secure only three-point victory 93-90. However their fans expected much easier game. Pichincha forced 20 La Salle turnovers. American forward Hunter Preston (201, college: Columbus St.) stepped up and scored 26 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and Cuban guard Adriano Barreras (186-1989) chipped in 20 points and 4 steals. Pichincha's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Argentinian Eduardo Gamboa (189-1984) responded with 30 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 14-for-14 from the free throw line !!!) and Martin Ochoa scored 23 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Pichincha have an impressive series of thirteen victories in a row. They maintain first place with 14-1 record. La Salle at the other side keeps the sixth position with seven games lost. Pichincha are looking forward to face UNITEP (#8) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. La Salle will play against Univ.Sucre and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
