Regular Season Round 7: Mineros - Fuerza Regia 83-62

There was a small surprise when fifth ranked Mineros (7-4) crushed much higher ranked Fuerza Regia (7-4) in Zacatecas 83-62 on Thursday. Mineros dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Fuerza Regia's 26. They outrebounded Fuerza Regia 49-36 including 34 on the defensive glass. Mineros looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Mike Bruesewitz (199-1990, college: Wisconsin) who led the winners and scored 15 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Naturalized American Durrell Summers (196-1989, college: Michigan St.) accounted for 19 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Mineros' coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Argentinian Joseph Avila came up with 10 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and American guard Gary Ricks (185-1991, college: Drake) added 13 points respectively for Fuerza Regia in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Mineros have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Fuerza Regia and Astros. Mineros will meet Halcones UV Xalapa (#9) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Fuerza Regia will play against Abejas (#7) and hope to secure a win.
