Regular Season Round 10: Abejas - Plateros 87-69

Rather predictable result when fourth ranked Abejas (10-8) won against 7th ranked Plateros (8-9) in Guanajuato 87-69 on Friday. Abejas dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Plateros' 14. They outrebounded Plateros 48-19 including a 35-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Abejas looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Plateros' players. American guard Michael Smith (193-1995, college: CBU) notched a double-double by scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and Argentinian Kevin Hernandez (205-1991) supported him with 8 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Abejas players scored in double figures. Even 21 points by American forward Jamil Wilson (201-1990, college: Marquette) did not help to save the game for Plateros. His fellow American import point guard Kendrick Brown (180, college: Jarvis Christian) added 13 points and 4 assists for lost side. Plateros' coach let to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Abejas maintains fourth position with 10-8 record. Loser Plateros dropped to the sixth place with nine games lost. They share the position with Mineros. Abejas will meet Soles (#8) in the next round. Plateros will play against Fuerza Regia in Monterrey and hope to secure a win.
