There was no surprise in Caracas where one of their biggest challengers Caribenas (5-6) were edged by first ranked Cayenas (8-3) 71-70 on Monday. The former international forward Ivaney Marquez (181-1983, college: Grayson County) scored 27 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and the former international Yosimar Corrales (184-1990) chipped in 25 points during the contest. At the losing side Vanessa Sanchez (-2003) responded with 21 points and point guard Jormelys Urbina (170-1996) scored 18 points (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Caribenas' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Cayenas have a solid three-game winning streak. Despite that victory Cayenas went down to second position due to points difference. Loser Caribenas dropped to the third place with six games lost. Cayenas will meet Danzantes (#5) in the next round. Caribenas will play again against the league's second-placed Cayenas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
