Regular Season Round 13: Santa Ana - Nejapa 119-86

There was a minor upset when 7th ranked Nejapa (6-11) was outplayed on the road by tenth ranked Santa Ana (4-13) 119-86 on Sunday. Santa Ana dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Nejapa's 50. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Puerto Rican center Giovanny Martinez (206, college: Jarvis Christian) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 18 rebounds for the winners and American point guard Armani Chaney (178-1997, college: Tennessee St.) chipped in 27 points, 7 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals. Worth to mention Chaney played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. Five Santa Ana players scored in double figures. At the losing side American guard Kylon Higgins (190-1993, college: Arkansas Tech) responded with a double-double by scoring 43 points (!!!), 12 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import forward Brandon OBrien (201-1990, college: Clark Atlanta) scored 13 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Nejapa's coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Santa Ana moved-up to ninth place. Loser Nejapa keeps the seventh position with 11 games lost. Santa Ana will meet at home higher ranked San Salvador (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Nejapa will play against Metapan and hope to secure a win.
