The Stann Creek Ecumenical Junior College won their first ever Association of Tertiary Level Institutions of Belize (ATLIB) basketball championship, blowing away the University of Belize girls 30-5 in finals at the San Pedro Junior College on la Isla Bonita on Sunday.
Ecumenical led from the get go as they were up a comfortable 20-1 at the half. Ethel Martinez led with 13 points and Jacklaine Arzu added 5pts. In the 2nd half, Ecumenical scored 10 more points to take the victory at the buzzer

The University of Belize (UB) Hosted the Association of Tertiary Level Institutions in Belizes (ATLIB) Southern Regional Tournament this past Saturday at UBs Recreation and Sports Center (Gym), in Belmopan. The tournament was inaugurated by UBs President Dr. Cary Fraser, who wished all teams success and also spoke of the importance of sportsmanship, discipline, organization and working together to achieve goals. The University of Belize (UB) Hosted the Association of Tertiary Level Institutions in Belizes (ATLIB) Southern Regional Tournament this past Saturday at UBs Recreation and Sports Center (Gym), in Belmopan. The tournament was inaugurated by UBs President Dr. Cary Fraser, who wished all teams success and also spoke of the importance of sportsmanship, discipline, organization and working together to achieve goals. Also present was the Dean of Student Affair, Mr. William Neal who thanked all teams for their participation. The teams included the University of Belize Black Jaguars (male and female), Galen University (male), Ecumenical Junior College (male and female), Independence Junior College (male), and Sacred Heart Junior College (male).
Black Jaguars both male and female teams were victorious in their games at the ATLIB Basketball Southern Regional held last Saturday. In the first game Galen University (GU) was triumphant over Independence Junior College (IJC), scoring 61-43. Ecumenical Junior College (EJC) and Sacred Heart Junior College (SHJC) played the second game which ended up 77-54 in favor of EJC. The UB Lady Black Jaguars toppled Ecumenical Junior College 27-21. The top Black Jaguar scorers were Glenda Torres and Kimberly Spencer. This female decided first and second for the region. The following game, the UB Black Jaguars defeated the guys from Independence Junior College by 68-26. Top scorers for Black Jaguars were: Farron Louriano, Winston Pratt, and Alfred Bainton. Galen University up against Sacred Heart Junior College (SHJC) won 78-63. Dribbling down to the last game, UB Black Jaguars outscored EJC 61-48 in favor of the defending champions, UB Black Jaguars. Top scorers were Farron Louriano, Daniel Nolberto, and Travis Lennon. Thus the Black Jaguars ended as the number one side with two wins, zero losses same as Galen University but with better scoring difference.
The Finals will be held in San Ignacio at the Falcon Field this coming Saturday, games are as follows:
Females:
UB Vs St. Johns College Junior College
EJC Vs WJC
Males:
UB Vs SPJC
GU VS WJC
Winners move to the play the finals.

Team Lacey was named in honor of Lacey Rosales, whose life was cut short earlier this year, by her teammates.
