The 6th Annual BECOL Basketball Tournament rolled on this past Friday at the Falcon Field in San Ignacio Town, as game 1 kicked off in the Under 21 Division where Young Money (1 0) opened up their season with a blowout of the winless Ghetto Heats (0 2), 54 32. Young Money was lead by Winston Pratt (186-G-90), Dijon McNabb and Johan Cutto Bermudez who scored 18, 11 and 9 respectively, while in the loss, C. Vasquez was the top scorer for Ghetto Heats with 14 points. In game 2, in the Over 35 division, JCF (1 1) was able to record their first win of the season, defeating the short-handed Hydro (0 2) by the score of 64 57. Karim Juan had the game high with 31 points, while Desmond Decky Berry also helped out with 16 points for JCF, while in a losing effort, Gerald Hedge Usher and Douglas Doc Smith sank 29 and 15 points respectively. In the nightcap, the young and upstart Hydro (3 0) team squeaked by the sub-champs, E-3 (1 1) by the score of 57 56 in a much anticipated Senior matchup. With the win, Hydro is now claiming supremacy in that division, despite their youth, as they were lead by Winston Pratt who had a great game with 32 points, while Daniel Buddy Nolberto helped out with 15 points. In a losing effort, Kurt Burgess (196-F) sank 28 points while Elroy Shabba Willis added 11 points. Saturday Night kicked off with an Under 18 game, where S. I. Spurs (1 - 0) defeated Mt. Carmel (0 1) 38 32. Spurs was lead by Jovanni Budna and Jonah Welcome who netted 19 and 8 points respectively, while Charles Ponce and Darwin Quetzal lead the scoring for Mt. Carmel with 16 and 10 points each. Game 2 featured the clash of the favorites in the Under 21 division, where JDB Ballers (2 0) has established their name in this division, defeating the sub-champs Flames (0 - 1) by the score of 58 54. In this hotly contested game, JDB Ballers was lead by the Big 3 - Vinnie Garbutt, Shimeon Simpson and Matthew Young who scored 21, 18 and 9 points respectively, while in a losing effort Elvis Zui Usher and Tre Usher topped the box score for Flames with 12 points each. In the nightcap, Galen (1 1) registered their first of the season by toppling the new look BNE Oilers (0 1) 60 47. Galen was lead by Jarrell Bird Velasquez who scored 17 points and by Emani Enriquez and Jamal Harris who sank 11 and 9 points respectively. In a losing effort, Akeem Watters, Jamir Flores and Jamie Brown scored 12, 11 and 10 points respectively.

Milton Palacio (193-G-78, college: Colorado St.) finished successful season in Lithuania with his Lietuvos Rytas. The team reached the Final but lost to the favorites Zalgiris. Zalgiris clinched the third consecutive LKL title. They knocked down Lietuvos Rytas in Vilnius tonight to sweep the championship series. Lietuvos Rytas stiffened defensively in the second period. The hosts held Zalgiris to 8 points in the next period and ensured a 32:29 halftime lead. But the Kaunas team solved the defensive riddles in the third term and went on a massive 26:19 run. The visitors arrived at the final break up by 4 points 55:51. Rimantas Kaukenas triggered a 17:2 rally from Zalgiris midway through the fourth period. The visitors never looked back afterwards cruising to the victory at the end. Mindaugas Kuzminskas delivered 16 points, while Rimantas Kaukenas added 15 points for the winning side. Eimantas Bendzius answered with 15 points for Lietuvos Rytas. Mindaugas Katelynas 10 points in the loss.
Hapoel Kiryat Tivon (National League) agreed terms with 36-year old Belizean ex-international forward Alex Carcamo (200-77, college: E.Washington, agency: Dream Team Management). He played last season at Ciudad de Bragado in Argentinian TNA league. The most of previous (2010-11) season Carcamo spent at Asociacion Italiana (TNA) in Argentina. In 16 games he had very impressive stats: 15.7ppg, 5.3rpg and 1.3apg that season. He also spent pre-season at Obera Tennis Club (TNA) in Argentinian league that year. The list of the past achievements is quite long as Carcamo won Kosovo League championship title in 2010. He was also voted Eurobasket.com Kosovo League All-Imports Team back in 2010. Carcamo represented Belize at the COCABA Championships in Cancun (Mexico) four years ago. He is quite experienced player. Carcamo has played also in China, Dominican Rep., Philippines, Portugal, Uruguay (Hebraica), Venezuela, Kosovo (Sigal Prishtina), Mexico (Halcones UV Xalapa and Cosmos), Dominican Republic (Reales) and Argentina (Olimpico de La Banda and San Martin Corrientes). He is close to retirement age as a player. It's very possible he may end his playing career at Kiryat Tivon. Carcamo attended Eastern Washington University until 1999 and it will be his 14th (!!!) season as a professional player. He could be described: A good all around forward, who plays the 3 and 4 positions and even some 5 if needed. Very athletic, good shootblocker, he's really quick for a PF, and has good shooting, dribbling and post-up skills.

Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius (LKL) added to their roster 35-year old Belizean ex-international guard Milton Palacio (193-78, college: Colorado State). He already started the season at Bnei Hasharon in Israeli Winner League. In 6 games this season he recorded 6.2ppg, 2.0rpg and 3.0apg. The last summer Palacio played at Quebradillas in Puerto Rican BSN. In 8 games he averaged 6.1ppg, 1.6rpg and 3.1apg. The list of the past achievements is quite long as His team made it to the Spanish ACB Semifinals in 2011. Palacio was also voted Eurobasket.com All-Greek A1 League Honorable Mention in 2011. He represented Belize at the COCABA Championships in Cancun (Mexico) four years ago. Palacios team won Silver. He is quite experienced player. Palacio has played also in Russia (Khimky), Serbia (Partizan), NBA (Utah Jazz, Oklahoma City Thunder and Toronto Raptors), Spain (Caja Laboral and Blusens Monbus) and Greece (Kavala). He is close to retirement age as a player. Its very possible he may end his playing career at Lietuvos rytas. Palacio attended Colorado State until 1999 and it will be his 14th (!!!) season as a professional player.
