Week two of the NEBL championships featured two of the best teams in the country. The Cayo Western Ballaz traveled to Belize City to take on the Smart Belize City Hurricanes and there was not a seat left unattended.
It was estimated that this game would be a nail bitter and certainly the Hurricane fans got what they paid for. Lead by Brian White (196-G/F-95, college: Wesley) who assuredly dominated the painted area for the Hurricanes adding 21 points on 8 of 10 from the field, and the Leslie brothers both Jacob, who tallied 20 pts, and Darwin Leslie (191-F/G-81), who muscled in 18.
Simply put the game came down to heart and intensity, and Belize city kept theirs in spades. Out rebounding the Ballaz 50 to 37, size was a large factor in the Hurricane ability to walk away with a victory. The phenomenal performance by White was cemented with 18 rebounds and 13 individually from the defensive end. Winston Pratt (186-G-90) from the Cayo Western Ballaz did his best to keep his squad within striking distance with a 29-point effort, but it wasn't big enough as he and the rest of the Ballaz watched fans celebrate as the time expired.
Cayo must reassemble their spirits and prepare for another tough opponent as next week they host the 2 time defending NEBL Champion San Pedro Tiger Sharks who went undefeated in preseason play.
The Hurricanes continue their undefeated season traveling smoothly into week 3 as they look to take on the new franchise Independence Thunderbolts who suffered a crushing 50 point loss to the Cayo Western Ballaz last week.

The Pepsi NEBL season closed with a huge bang in San Pedro on Saturday night, as two-time champions San Pedro Tiger Sharks hosted Belmopan Bandits in game 3 of the Finals.
