The Undefeated Belize City Hurricanes traveled to the Island last week to take on the 2015 reigning champion San Pedro Tiger Sharks. This match was exactly what the fans of the NEBL asked for as the two titanic teams clashed head to head in arguably the most controversial battle of the year thus far.
San Pedro did not have the warmest of welcomes for the Hurricanes of Belize city as they jumped out to an early 16-point lead in the first half. But the Hurricanes wouldn't relent and continued to stick within 10 points leading into the 3rd quarter.
With less than 1 minute left in the game the Hurricanes took a one-point lead and scrambled to get back on defense. San Pedro pushed the ball coast to coast and sank a very clutch elbow jump shot to reclaim their lead. The Hurricanes then brought the ball down court for one final possession before time expired and put up a missed shot. Upon the rebound the Hurricanes were fouled through a very controversial call made by the officials.
Farron Louriano went to the line and sank both free throws leading the Hurricanes to an 81-80 point victory. Louriano lead in scoring across the board for the Hurricanes dropping 26 points and adding 5 rebounds. For the Tiger Sharks, it was Caleb Sutton (199-F-90, college: Judson) who lead the charge with a 19 point, 6 rebound game.
This week the Hurricanes will take on No Limits for the rights to the city and the Tiger Sharks travel to Dangriga to take on the Warriors. Both games will be exciting matches and solid test for the two top ranked squads.

NEBL Week 8 Review!!! - 2 days ago
This year, the NEBL has been more competitive compared to the past few years. This, of course, makes the games more exciting to watch. One thing is certain, the addition of foreign players to the league has significantly impacted both quality and play level of certain teams. This past weekend, predicted outcomes to the games held in Belmopan, San Ignacio and Orange Walk were debated up to the last minutes of play. In Belmopan, the home team struggled to pull its win from the San Pedro Tig...   [read more]
