Its official, the 2016 NEBL season is at its climax with the two most heavily anticipated teams facing off in the finals. The Hurricanes of Belize Cityt dominated the regular season holding down the league's best record. In their first round of the playoffs they ran into the Warriors of Dangriga whose guard play had been exceptional throughout the latter half of the season. The 3 game series for the Warriors ended in 2 as the number 1 seeded team dismantled the charge of Dangriga.
Much can be said of the 3rd ranked San Pedro Tigersharks Tiger Sharks, who through the course of the season experience a very unexpected road to the championship series. In their final regular season game against the Belmopan Bandits, the Tiger Sharks held their heads low as the Bandits stole a decisive 2nd place regular season ranking from San Pedro Tigersharks and claimed home court advantage. But as the Sharks returned to the Capital city their demeanor was different, and they put away the capital city team in two games to reach the finals for the 3rd consecutive year.
It was what the fans predicted and what all basketball lovers around the country hoped to see. The powerhouse Smart Belize City No Limit Hurricanes squaring off with the reigning NEBL champion San Pedro Tigersharks. Tip-off is this Friday April 29, at 9pm as this historic supercharged season takes its first curtain call. Who will take the lead and the next step to becoming the new champion?
