San Pedro Tiger Sharks wins again in Elite Basketball play - Feb 9, 2017

The 2017 National Elite Basketball League competition continued over the last weekend with a number of games across the country. On Saturday 28th January, 2017, out at the San Pedro High School Auditorium in San Pedro Town, the former champions San Pedro Tiger Sharks continued its dominance of the young season so far when it won handily over the defending champions the Smart Belize Hurricanes by the score of 85-75. With this win, the San Pedro Tiger Sharks have improved their record to 3-0 while the defending champions the Smart Belize Hurricanes have dropped to 0-2. The top scorers for the San Pedro Tiger Sharks were George Williams (198-G-90, college: Wayland Baptist) with 27 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal; Ashton Edwards (SG-89) who scored 21 points to go along with 1 assist and a steal; Raul Roches who tallied 16 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists and Kurt Burgess (196-F-82) who scored 9 points but pulled down 14 rebounds while dishing out 5 assists to go along with a steal. Meanwhile, the top scorers for the Smart Belize Hurricanes were Akeem Watters (186-F-95) with 17 points, 3 rebounds and a steal; Leroy Louriano who contributed 14 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals and Andrew Ortiz who scored 13 points, had 5 rebounds and an assist.
At the Stann Creek Ecumenical High School Auditorium in Dangriga Town, the visiting Cayo Western Ballaz pick up its first win of the 2017 campaign when it won over the host team Dangriga Dream Ballers by the score of 82-70. The top scorers for the Cayo Western Ballaz were Darwin Leslie (191-SF-81) with 26 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists and 5 steals; Daniel Nolberto with 17 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal and Brandon Flowers with 13 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal. For the Dangriga Dream Ballers, their top scorers were Dillmore Conorquie with 20 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals; Tahj Wells who contributed 14 points, 11 rebounds, to go along with 2 assists and 2 steals and Quinton Bowen who scored 12 points to go along with his 15 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. And in the game played at the Belize Elementary School Gymnasium between the Belize City No Limit Team and the visiting Belmopan Bandits, it was the Bandits winning over the No Limit squad by the score of 92-65. The top scorers for the Belmopan Bandits were Gregory Rudon with 18 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists; Jamal Harris who scored 15 points along with an assist and a steal and Stephen Williams who also scored 15 points, along with 2 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.
The competition will continue this coming weekend with three more games on the schedule.

San Pedro T. - Belmopan B. 67-75 Belmopan Bandits celebrated NEBL title. They upset San Pedro Tigersharks on the road in the decisive third game of the championship series. The Bandits used a 26:13 run in the second term to gain a 44:30 halftime advantage. San Pedro pulled within 9 points at the final intermission. Belmopan B. - San Pedro T. 81-73 Belmopan Bandits bounced back from the opening defeat and edged San Pedro Tigersharks to even the championship series at 1-1. The hosts trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 50-39 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. San Pedro T. - Belmopan B. 69-60 San Pedro Tigersharks celebrated the opening victory in NEBL Finals. They overcame Belmopan Bandits to surge ahead in the championship series. The game without a history. San Pedro T. led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Ashton Edwards (SG-89) provided 18 points to pace the hosts.
