The 2017 National Elite Basketball League competition continued over the last weekend with a number of games across the country. On Saturday 28th January, 2017, out at the San Pedro High School Auditorium in San Pedro Town, the former champions San Pedro Tiger Sharks continued its dominance of the young season so far when it won handily over the defending champions the Smart Belize Hurricanes by the score of 85-75. With this win, the San Pedro Tiger Sharks have improved their record to 3-0 while the defending champions the Smart Belize Hurricanes have dropped to 0-2. The top scorers for the San Pedro Tiger Sharks were George Williams (198-G-90, college: Wayland Baptist) with 27 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal; Ashton Edwards (SG-89) who scored 21 points to go along with 1 assist and a steal; Raul Roches who tallied 16 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists and Kurt Burgess (196-F-82) who scored 9 points but pulled down 14 rebounds while dishing out 5 assists to go along with a steal. Meanwhile, the top scorers for the Smart Belize Hurricanes were Akeem Watters (186-F-95) with 17 points, 3 rebounds and a steal; Leroy Louriano who contributed 14 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals and Andrew Ortiz who scored 13 points, had 5 rebounds and an assist.
At the Stann Creek Ecumenical High School Auditorium in Dangriga Town, the visiting Cayo Western Ballaz pick up its first win of the 2017 campaign when it won over the host team Dangriga Dream Ballers by the score of 82-70. The top scorers for the Cayo Western Ballaz were Darwin Leslie (191-SF-81) with 26 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists and 5 steals; Daniel Nolberto with 17 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal and Brandon Flowers with 13 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal. For the Dangriga Dream Ballers, their top scorers were Dillmore Conorquie with 20 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals; Tahj Wells who contributed 14 points, 11 rebounds, to go along with 2 assists and 2 steals and Quinton Bowen who scored 12 points to go along with his 15 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. And in the game played at the Belize Elementary School Gymnasium between the Belize City No Limit Team and the visiting Belmopan Bandits, it was the Bandits winning over the No Limit squad by the score of 92-65. The top scorers for the Belmopan Bandits were Gregory Rudon with 18 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists; Jamal Harris who scored 15 points along with an assist and a steal and Stephen Williams who also scored 15 points, along with 2 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.
The competition will continue this coming weekend with three more games on the schedule.

As the regular season comes to a close, the Pepsi NEBL playoffs will tip off this coming weekend, with two games. The format of the playoffs will be a best of three series, with San Pedro Tiger Sharks (#1) going up against Cayo Western Ballaz (#4) and Dangriga Dream Ballers (#2) facing Belmopan Bandits (#3) in the semi-finals. The most exciting game of round 12 in the NEBL took place in Belize City. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 6th ranked Smart Belize H. (4-8) to second ranked Belmopan B. (8-4) 92-90 on Saturday evening. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 92-90. There will be only one (last) round of the Regular Season in NEBL. The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked San Pedro T. (8-3) at the home court on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by fourth ranked Dangriga W. (6-5) 79-73. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of San Pedro T..
