NEBL Round 5: San Pedro T. lose their first game against Dangriga W. - Feb 19, 2017

Coincidentally all hosts won their games.

The most surprising game was the first loss of San Pedro T. (4-1) on the court of sixth ranked Dangriga W. on Friday night. Visitors were defeated by Dangriga W. 57-52. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of San Pedro T.. San Pedro T. was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Dangriga W. dominated on the defensive end, holding San Pedro T. to just 6 points in first quarter. Dangriga W. (2-2) moved-up to third place, which they share with Belmopan B. and Cayo Western B. San Pedro T. at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. Dangriga W. is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Belize City NL (#7) at home in the next round. San Pedro T. will play against the league's second-placed Orange Walk RR (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Belize City: Belize City NL (#7) and Smart Belize H. (#3). Belize City NL (1-4) won against visiting Smart Belize H. (2-3) 75-70. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Smart Belize H.. Belize City NL maintains seventh place with 1-4 record. Defending champion Smart Belize H. dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. Belize City NL will play against higher ranked Dangriga W. (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Smart Belize H. will have a break next round.

Belize City NL - Smart Belize H. 75-70

Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Belize City: Belize City NL (#7) and Smart Belize H. (#3). Belize City NL (1-4) won against visiting Smart Belize H. (2-3) 75-70. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Smart Belize H.. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Smart Belize H. won third quarter 15-10. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Belize City NL maintains seventh place with 1-4 record. Defending champion Smart Belize H. dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. Belize City NL will play against higher ranked Dangriga W. (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Smart Belize H. will have a break next round.

Halcones de Zonzacate (Liga MB) signed 28-year old American center Tahj Wells (208-102kg-89, college: Edward Waters). He played this summer at Dangriga Warriors in Belizean NEBL. He helped them to make it to the semifinals. A very impressive season as he was named to Belizean NEBL All-Star Game. Team FOG Naestved (Ligaen) agreed terms with 23-year old Belizean forward Devin Daly (195-91kg-94, college: L.Superior, agency: Duran International). It is actually his comeback to Naestved as he has played here before. Daly played this summer at Belmopan Red Bandits in Belizean NEBL. He helped them to win the league title despite they ended the regular season at the second place. The Pepsi NEBL season closed with a huge bang in San Pedro on Saturday night, as two-time champions San Pedro Tiger Sharks hosted Belmopan Bandits in game 3 of the Finals.
