Brazil registered the first win at the South American Championship. They overcame Paraguay for 1-0 record in Group B. Vitor Benite (190-F/G-90) scored 21 points to lead the winners. The teams stayed close throughout the opening quarter. They were tied at 15 after ten minutes of action. Paraguay managed to pull ahead in the second frame. They eke out a 33:32 halftime advantage. However Brazil managed to take over in the third frame. Scoring 23 points Brazil pulled in front for a 55:48 lead with one quarter remaining. Paraguay narrowed the gap in the final frame but could not avoid the loss at the end. Welington Dos Santos (185-PG-81) notched 13 points, while Mineiro Ferreira (208-C/F-88) and Dede Stefanelli (196-F/G-84) added 9 points each in the win. Guillermo Araujo (205-C-82) answered with 20 points for Paraguay. Javier Martinez (189-G-78, agency: Dream Team Management) netted 19 points in the loss.
