Russia earned the third straight win at the Olympic Games basketball tournament. They snatched a thrilling victory over Brazil. Vitaliy Fridzon (196-G-85, agency: Alti Sport) drained a late three-pointer to propel Russia to the win. Brazil fell at 2-1 record in Group B after the loss. Brazil ensured a confident start to the game. The Latin American team gained a 20:15 lead at the first intermission. However Andrei Kirilenko (209-F-81) knocked donw 15 points in the second quarter to put Russian in front 40:32 at halftime. Timofey Mozgov (215-C-86, agency: Ryzhov Stanislav) gave Russia a double-digit lead at the start of the third quarter. They kept Brazil at distance posting a 59:53 lead at the final intermission. But the Latin American team denied the deficit in the fourth stanza. Nene Hilario tipped off a 6:0 run that tied things up at 63. Soon Larry Taylor (185-G-80, college: Missouri Western) and Leandrinho Barbosa (190-PG-82) gave Brazil a 72:67 lead. But Alexey Shved knocked down five points in a row to narrow the deficit. Marcelinho Huertas made it 74:72 for Brazil however Vitaly Vitaliy Fridzon dropped a killer bomb and sealed the victory for David Blatt's team. Andrei Kirilenko accounted for 19 points, while Timofey Mozgov added 18 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Leandrinho Barbosa answered with 16 points for Brazil. Larry Taylor netted 12 points in the loss.

Flamengo led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 18-of-22 charity shots (81.8 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Flamengo especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. Sao Jose/Vinac was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for the former international center Caio Silveira (211-87, agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds. The former international Olivinha Rodriguez (202-83) contributed with 18 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winners. The former international power forward Murilo Becker (210-83) answered with 20 points and 6 rebounds (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) and the former international point guard Fulvio de Assis (186-81) added 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks in the effort for Sao Jose/Vinac. Uberlandia completed the sweep of Bauru edging those at home court for the second straight time. The hosts trailed by 7 points at the halftime before their 39-29 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Uberlandia looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Valtinho Silva (187-77) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 14 assists. International power forward Lucas Cipolini (206-86, college: BYU-Hawaii) chipped in 19 points and 7 rebounds. Five Uberlandia players scored in double figures. in the up coming NBA Draft.
Lucas is a strong 7'0 center and is currently playing for Asefa Estudian. (Spain-ACB)
He has been a member of the U19 national team and he played for Brasil
