Uniceub/BRB scraped into the South American League Final stage. They eked out a narrow win over Pinheiros/Sky in the final round of the semifinal stage in Group E to punch the last ticket. Alex Ribeiro (191-G-80, agency: Interperformances) unloaded 29 points to lead the winners. He sank two free throws late in regulation to seal the victory.
Pinheiros/Sky started strong. They overcame a 17-point tally from Alex Ribeiro in the first stanza to take a 29:23 lead. Uniceub/BRB managed to pull in front in the second quarter. The teams arrived at the interval tied at 44. Pinheiros/Sky snatched the lead once again and entered the final frame up by two points 70:68. Guilherme Giovannoni (202-F-80, agency: Interperformances) and Alex Ribeiro stepped up for Brasilia when it mattered the most. They drilled tripled to make it 81:75. Pinheiros/Sky cut the deficit but Alex Ribeiro went deadly from the penalty line and sealed the victory for Uniceub/BRB. Guilherme Giovannoni notched 23 points and 9 rebounds for Uniceub/BRB. Arthur Silva (199-F/G-82) added 19 points for the winners. Mineiro Ferreira (208-C/F-88) answered with 25 points for Pinheiros/Sky. Joe Smith (193-G-77, college: Al.-Huntsville) and Andre Bambu (205-C-79) had 12 points each in the loss.

Defending champion Paschoalotto/Bauru (NBB) re-signed experienced 35-year old former international power forward Shilton Santos (198-82). He played there last season. In 46 NBB games he averaged 6.2ppg and 5.3rpg. Santos helped them to win the league title. The previous (15-16) season he played at Minas where in 31 NBB games he had 7.6ppg, 7.1rpg (#4 in the league) and 2.1apg. Vivo/Franca Basquete Sao Paulo (NBB) strengthened their roster with addition of 32-year old former Brazilian international small forward Luis Felipe Gruber (206-85) from B.Cearense. In 30 NBB games he recorded 10.1ppg, 4.3rpg and 1.4apg last season. The previous (15-16) season he played at Paulistano where in 32 NBB games he averaged 10.6ppg and 4.3rpg.
