Flamengo erupts in the second half to stun Penarol at the Final stage of the South American League 2012. The team trailed 26 points, but managed to seal 1-point win, 79:78.
Penarol took the control of the game from the first minutes and won the opening period 29-17. They added 20-12 for 49:29 massive lead at the halftime. Moreover their advantage reached 26 points, but they could not win the game. Flamengo replied with 27-17 in the third quarter and then erupted with 23-12 in the last quarter.
Olivinha Rodriguez (202-F-83) top-scored for the winners with 23 points and 15 rebounds, while Marquinhos Vieira (207-F-84) added 19. Caio Silveira (211-C-87, agency: Interperformances) delivered 18 and Vitor Benite (190-F/G-90) notched 9. David Teague (196-G-83, college: Purdue) finished the game with 18 points in defeat and Facundo Campazzo (179-PG-91) brought 16. Leonardo Gutierrez (201-F/C-78) scored 14, whilst Thomas Terrell (201-F/C-79, college: Georgia St.) tossed in 13.
Tomorrow, Flamengo will take on Uniceub / BRB, while Penarol will face host Regatas Corrientes to close the day.

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Flamengo as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Flamengo defeated 9th ranked Paulistano in Rio de Janeiro 81-72. Hettsheimer's double-double lands him Player of the Week award - 2 days ago

30-year old center Rafael Hettsheimer (206-C-86) put on an amazing game in the last round for Bauru and receives a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for round 7. He had a double-double of 34 points and 13 rebounds, while his team crushed Vasco Da G. (#7, 4-4) with 24-point margin 82-58. Bauru maintains the 6th position in Brazilian league.
