   #1. This week's number one is an international center Hilario Nene (207-82, currently plays in NBA), who plays in the NBA. He could not help the Washington Wizards (5-28) in their last game. Despite Nene's very good performance the Washington Wizards were edged in a double overtime (!!!) 115-113 on the road by the Brooklyn Nets. He scored 20 points, grabbed 6 boards, passed 4 assists and added 3 steals in 36 minutes on the court. It was Wizards' fifth consecutive loss in a row. Nene has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 12.9ppg, 6.3rpg, 2.5apg, 2FGP: 49.7% and FT: 75.6% in the 20 games he played so far. Nene is currently a member of the Brazilian senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international power forward Tiago Splitter (211-85, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in NBA). He led San Antonio Spurs to an easy victory against the Philadelphia 76ers (15-20) crushing them 109-86 in the NBA last Saturday. Splitter recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting 10 rebounds. The San Antonio Spurs have a solid 27-10 record this season. Splitter has relatively good stats this year: 9.4ppg, 5.0rpg, 1.4apg, 2FGP: 57.5%(127-221) and FT: 74.0%. He has a dual citizenship: Brazilian and Spanish. Splitter is in the roster of the Brazilian senior national team.

   #3. The Brazilian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international point guard Marcelinho Huertas (191-83, agency: Edge Sports, currently plays in Spain). He was the major contributor in a Regal FC Barcelona's victory against the league outsider Lagun Aro GBC (2-14) crushing them 98-50 in the Spanish ACB on Sunday night. Huertas recorded 11 points and added 4 passes in a mere 19 minutes. Regal FC Barcelona (9-7) is placed eighth in the ACB. This year Huertas' overall stats are: 7.9ppg, 2.1rpg, 3.7apg, 2FGP: 43.9%, 3FGP: 33.3% and FT: 95.5%(21-22) in the 16 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Brazilian and Italian. Huertas is also a member of the Brazilian senior national team.

Center Rafael Hettsheimer (206-86, currently plays in Spain) contributed to a Real Madrid's victory against the 11th-ranked FIATC Joventut (7-9) 88-77 in the Spanish ACB in Sunday night's game. He recorded 8 points. Real Madrid (15-1) is placed first in the ACB. It's Hettsheimer's first season with the team. Hettsheimer's total stats this year are: 3.2ppg and 1.7rpg. He has both Brazilian and Spanish nationalities. Hettsheimer used to play for the Brazilian national team back in 2011.

   #5. International point guard Leandro Barbosa (190-82, currently plays in NBA) helped Boston Celtics win their game against the New York Knicks (23-11) 102-96 in the NBA last Monday. He scored 8 points and added 3 passes in only 13 minutes. The Boston Celtics have 17-17 record this season. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. This year Barbosa's total stats are: 4.8ppg and 1.4apg in the 24 games. He plays currently for the Brazilian national team.

He is an international player who is currently on the senior Brazilian National Team roster.

Neto, who plays in the Spanish ACB was not able to help Lagun Aro GBC (2-14) in their last game. Despite his good performance the bottom-ranked Lagun Aro GBC was crushed 98-50 in Barcelona by the much higher-ranked (#8) Regal FC. Neto was the top scorer with 14 points. He also added 4 rebounds in 26 minutes. It was Lagun Aro GBC's third consecutive loss in a row. Neto has averaged so far 9.9ppg, 2.6rpg, 3.4apg and 1.4spg in the 16 games. He is also Brazilian national team player.

   #8. Point guard Scott Machado (185-90, college: Iona, currently plays in NBA) managed to help Houston Rockets in a victory against the Milwaukee Bucks (16-16) 115-101 in the NBA on Friday night. Machado scored only 2 points in 3 minutes on the court. The Houston Rockets have 20-14 record this season. This year Machado averages just 1.3ppg in the six games. He is a naturalized American. Machado used to play for the Brazilian university national team back in 2011. Strangely he has never played in Brazil.

Former international center Lucas Nogueira (213-92, currently plays in Spain) was not able to secure a victory for Asefa Estudiantes (8-8) in their game against Caja Laboral (13-3) in the Spanish ACB. Nogueira recorded 5 points. Asefa Estudiantes was defeated 72-68 in Vitoria by the second-ranked Caja Laboral. Nogueira has averaged so far 4.3ppg and 2.8rpg. He used to play for the Brazilian national team two years ago.

   #10. Center Rafael Maia (206-91, currently plays college basketball in the States) couldn't help the Brown in their game against the Rhode Island University (0-0) in the NCAA. Maia recorded 8 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in 32 minutes. The Brown lost 47-59 in Kingston, RI to the Rhode Island University. Maia has averaged so far 4.3ppg and 2.8rpg in the 16 games. He is a former U17 international player as six years ago he still played for the Brazilian national team.

   #11. International forward Marcus Vinicius Toledo (203-86, currently plays in Spain) helped Ford Burgos win their game against the closely-ranked River Andorra 86-75 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) in Friday night's game. He recorded only 2 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 19 minutes. Toledo has averaged so far 8.8ppg, 4.9rpg, 1.2apg and 1.7spg in the 12 games. He plays currently for the Brazilian national team.

   #12. Former international guard Carlos Cobos (193-88, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Leche Rio Breogan in their game against CB Clavijo in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division). Cobos cannot count Friday's game as one of the best ones. He recorded only 2 points and had 3 steals. His team was defeated 77-69. Cobos has averaged so far 4.5ppg, 2.6rpg, 2.2apg and 1.2spg. He used to play for the Brazilian national team back in 2010.


The list of other players, who all have Brazilian passport but never been selected to any of Brazilian national teams:

   #1. Atila Santos (208-C-83, agency: Warren Sports International, college: Minnesota St., currently plays in Bulgaria), who plays in the Bulgarian NBL could not help Balkan (6-6) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Santos' good performance Balkan was badly defeated 69-52 at home by the second-ranked Levski Sofia. He recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points and getting 15 rebounds. Santos also added 2 blocks. Santos belongs to league's best rebounders (ranked #2) and also on the list of best blockers (fourth place). He has very reliable stats this season: 12.3ppg, 10.7rpg, 1.2bpg and 1.2spg.

   #2. Luiz Bidart (183-G-90, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA was not able to help the Seattle (0-3) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Bidart's good performance the Seattle was defeated 76-71 on the road by the San Jose State University. He scored 12 points. Bidart has averaged so far 4.3ppg and 2.8rpg.

   #3. Rodrigo de Souza (188-G, currently studies in the States) managed to help University of Pacific in a victory against the University of California - Davis (0-2) 74-64 in the NCAA on Saturday night. de Souza scored only 4 points in 18 minutes. The University of Pacific has 1-1 conference record this season. de Souza has averaged so far 4.5ppg, 2.6rpg, 2.2apg and 1.2spg in the 13 games he played so far.

   #4. Rinaldo Mafra (201-F-86, is currently at the American university) was not able to secure a victory for the Jacksonville St. (1-3) in their game against the Tennessee State University (3-0) in the NCAA. He scored only 4 points. The Jacksonville St. (#6) was defeated 66-57 on their home court in Jacksonville, AL by the Tennessee State University. Mafra has averaged so far 4.5ppg, 2.6rpg, 2.2apg and 1.2spg.

   #5. Kazuya Hatano (192-F-82, currently plays in Japan) contributed to a Shimane Magic's victory against the fourth-ranked Fukuoka Rizing (16-8) 103-95 in the Japanese BJ League last Saturday. He recorded only 2 points in 8 minutes on the court. Shimane Susanoo Magic (16-8) is placed third in Western group. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. Hatano has averaged so far 1.3ppg and 1.3rpg in the three games. He has a dual citizenship: Brazilian and Japanese.

   #6. Gerson Santo (206-C-91, currently plays college basketball in the States) helped Colorado St. win their game against the St.Bonaventure University crushing them 85-64 in the NCAA on Saturday night. Santo scored only 1 points. Santo has averaged so far 1.3ppg and 1.3rpg.

   #7. Arthur Bernardi (206-F-90, currently plays college basketball in the States) couldn't help the Houston Baptist in their game against the Texas A&M University in the NCAA. He scored 9 points in 21 minutes. His team lost 59-67. Bernardi has averaged so far 1.3ppg and 1.3rpg in the three games.

Center Feliciano Perez (210-C-90) put on an amazing game in the last round for top-ranked Botafogo F.R., receiving a Latinbasket.com Liga Ouro Player of the Week award for round 7. The 26-year old player had a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds, while his team crushed Santos/Macapa (#5, 4-8) with 22-point margin 101-79. Host teams show no mercy winning all games. Very significant was Joinville's (#3, 7-4) victory against 4th placed Blumenau (4-7) 78-74. It was a great evening for guard Lucas Vezaro (188-96) who led his team to a victory scoring 18 points. point guard Jeferson Froehlich (193-91) helped adding 15 points and 6 rebounds. Joinville's coach George Salles used entire bench in such tough game. At the losing side American guard Deonta Stocks (185-88, college: W.Georgia) responded with 20 points.    [read more]
