American Desmond Holloway (190-G-88) had a great game in the last round for Liga Sorocaba and that's him to receive a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for round 14. The 24-year old guard had the game-high 29 points adding seven rebounds and two assists for Liga Sorocaba in his team's victory, helping them to crush Suzano (#16, 2-11) with 17-point margin 87-70. The game was not the highest importance and did not have significant influence on the top of the standings. Liga Sorocaba maintains the 11th position in Brazilian NBB. Liga Sorocaba is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 5-7 record. Holloway turned to be Liga Sorocaba's top player in his first season with the team. Coastal Carolina College graduate has very impressive stats this year. Holloway is in league's top in points (6th best: 18.9ppg) and averages solid 1.4bpg and 61.5% FGP.
The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 23-year old Italian guard Thyago Aleo (188-G-89) of Joinville. Aleo impressed basketball fans with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. Of course he lead Joinville to another comfortable win outscoring the lower-ranked Tijuca TC (#17, 1-12) 79-58. The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. But Joinville managed to improve slightly their position in standings taking 12th place. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 5-9 record. Aleo is a newcomer at Joinville and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.
The third best performed player last round was former international forward Felipe Ribeiro (201-F-79) of Basquete Cearense (#7). Ribeiro scored 19 points and grabbed twelve rebounds (!!!). Despite Ribeiro's great performance Basquete Cearense lost 84-85 to the higher-ranked Pinheiros/Sky (#4, 9-3). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The last thing Basquete Cearense needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 7 victories and 5 lost games. Ribeiro has a great season in Brazil. After 12 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 8.9rpg (2nd best) and assists with 1.0apg (9th best). He also has 1.3bpg and FGP: 56.5%.
Other top performing players last week: 4. Ricardo Fischer (185-G-91) of Bauru - 21 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists 5. Douglas Nunes (201-C-87) of Minas - 17 points and 10 rebounds 6. Marquinhos Vieira (207-F-84) of Flamengo - 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists 7. Diego Pinheiro (195-F/G-80) of Limeira - 24 points and 3 rebounds 8. Ricardo Probst (200-F/C-76) of Joinville - 19 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists 9. Robert Day (197-F-82) of Uberlandia - 18 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists 10. Thiago Mathias (206-F-89) of Joinville - 14 points and 12 rebounds
The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
