The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin.

The most exciting game of round 15 in the NBB took place in Mogi das Cruzes. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of second-best Uberlandia (11-3) to fifteenth ranked Mogi (5-9) 83-81 on Thursday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Uberlandia. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 28-18. But Uberlandia won second period 21-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Mogi won last quarter 18-18. They made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. It was a good game for the former international center Babby Araujo (211-80, college: BYU) who led his team to a victory with 24 points and 8 rebounds. Forward Caio Ranches (192-87) contributed with 16 points for the winners. American forward Robert Day (197-82, college: W.Oregon) answered with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for Uberlandia. Mogi moved-up to fourteenth place. Uberlandia at the other side keeps the second position with three games lost. Mogi are looking forward to face higher ranked Vivo/Franca (#4) in Sao Paulo in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Uberlandia will play on the road against Sao Jose/Vinac and is hoping to win this game.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Pinheiros (10-4) against twelfth ranked Liga Sorocaba (6-7) on Thursday night. Host Pinheiros was defeated by Liga Sorocaba in Sao Paolo 94-77. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Pinheiros. It was a great evening for American guard Kenny Dawkins (175-87, college: Lamar) who led his team to a victory scoring 28 points. Desmond Holloway helped adding 27 points. The best for the losing side was American guard Joe Smith (193-77, college: Al.-Huntsville) with 20 points and 9 assists. Liga Sorocaba have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Minas. Pinheiros at the other side keeps the third position with four games lost. Liga Sorocaba will play against higher ranked Paulistano (#9) in Sao Paolo in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Pinheiros will play at home against Paschoalotto/Bauru (#7) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
An interesting game was also a 21-point surprising road defeat of 4th ranked Vivo/Franca in a game versus Sao Jose/Vinac (#7) 87-66. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Vivo/Franca. It was an exceptional evening for Fulvio de Assis who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Jhonatan Luz dos Santos came up with 13 points and 8 rebounds for Vivo/Franca in the defeat. Sao Jose/Vinac (9-6) moved-up to sixth place. Loser Vivo/Franca keeps the fourth position with five games lost. Sao Jose/Vinac will meet at home league's second-placed Uberlandia in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Vivo/Franca will play against Mogi in Mogi das Cruzes and hope to secure a win.
Bottom-ranked Tijuca TC managed to get a second victory, breaking the series of ten consecutive loses. This time they edged sixteenth-ranked Palmeiras in Sao Paulo 79-77. The best player for the winners was Arnaldinho Filho who scored 18 points and 4 assists. Tijuca TC (2-12) moved-up to sixteenth place, which they share with Palmeiras and Suzano. Palmeiras lost ninth consecutive game. Tijuca TC's next round opponent will be Suzano (#17) in Sao Paulo.
NBB top team - Flamengo (13-0) had no problems winning another game on Thursday. This time they crushed seventeenth ranked Suzano (2-12) in Sao Paulo 105-74. It was a good game for Marquinhos Vieira who led his team to a victory with 30 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Undefeated Flamengo have an impressive series of thirteen victories in a row. They maintain first place with 13-0 record. Suzano lost ninth consecutive game. They dropped to the sixteenth position with 12 games lost. Flamengo will face Palmeiras (#16) in Sao Paulo in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Suzano will play at home against Tijuca TC in Rio de Janeiro and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 15: Basquete Cearense beat Vila Velha on the road 94-85. Minas lost to defending champion Brasilia on its own court 86-90. Bauru unfortunately lost to Paulistano in Sao Paolo 73-76. Joinville managed to beat Limeira at home 77-62. Basquete Cearense was defeated by Brasilia on the opponent's court 92-77. Flamengo beat S.Jose/Unimed in a home game 83-75. Pinheiros/Sky won against Palmeiras on the road 94-85.



Vila Velha - Basquete Cearense 85-94

No shocking result in a game when eighth ranked SKY/Basquete (8-6) beat on the road 14th ranked Vila Velha (4-10) 94-85 on Thursday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 25-12. But Vila Velha won second period 23-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. SKY/Basquete dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Vila Velha's 38 and made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when SKY/Basquete made 9 blocks. It was a good game for point guard Matheus Costa (179-80) who led his team to a victory with 21 points and 8 assists. The former international forward Felipe Ribeiro (201-79) contributed with 20 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Four SKY/Basquete players scored in double figures. SKY/Basquete's coach Alberto Bial used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American point guard James Parker (188-81, college: Robert Morris) answered with 22 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and the other American import guard Benzor Simmons (196-88, college: Tenn-Martin) added 23 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) in the effort for Vila Velha. SKY/Basquete maintains eighth place with 8-6 record, which they share with Paulistano. Vila Velha lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the fifteenth position with ten games lost. SKY/Basquete will face Minas (#11) in Belo Horizonte in the next round. Vila Velha will play at home against Brasilia (#5).

Minas - Brasilia 86-90

Very expected game when 10th ranked Minas (6-7) lost to fifth ranked Brasilia (9-3) in Belo Horizonte 86-90 on Thursday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 24-22. But Minas won second period 20-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Brasilia won last quarter 23-20. They made 19-of-20 free shots (95.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Minas' players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Brasilia made 12 blocks. It was a good game for international forward Guilherme Giovannoni (202-80, agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory with 20 points and 5 rebounds. International guard Alex Ribeiro (191-80, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. It was a good game for power forward Renato Carbonari (204-87) who led his team to a victory with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Pedro Lima (190-87) contributed with 18 points and 4 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. Five Paulistano players scored in double figures.
