Fernando
Alvim
Experienced Fernando Alvim (201-F-80) put on an amazing game in the last round for league's second-best Contagem and that's him to receive a Latinbasket.com Liga Ouro Player of the Week award for round 2.
The 36-year old forward had a double-double of 30 points and thirteen rebounds, while his team edged out Botafogo F.R. (3-1) 82-78. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Contagem is placed at 2nd position in Brazilian Liga Ouro. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost that single game earlier this season. Contagem will need more victories to improve their 3-1 record. In the team's last game Alvim had a remarkable 57.1% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at Contagem, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Alvim has impressive league stats. He is in league's top in rebounds (5th best: 7.3rpg).

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young guard Lucas Vezaro (188-G-96) of Joinville. Vezaro impressed basketball fans with 35 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Bad luck as Joinville was edged by Santos/Macapa (2-3) 75-71. The season is still at the very beginning and this lost game may not be such crucial, of course if they start win the games. Let's wait for the next round. Vezaro is a newcomer at Joinville and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 22.5ppg (#1).

The third best performed player last round was American Jamaal Smith (175-PG-85) of top-ranked Botafogo F.R.. Smith scored 22 points and passed nine assists. Despite Smith's great performance Botafogo F.R. lost 78-82 to #2 ranked Contagem. But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. The last thing Botafogo F.R. needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 3 victories and 1 lost games. Smith has a great season in Brazil. After only 4 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 15.3ppg (3rd best) and assists with 5.5apg (best passer).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Ulisses Lima (198-SF-85) of Santos/Macapa - 23 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists
5. Ricardo de Azevedo (201-F-83) of Santos/Macapa - 20 points, 13 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Bruno Lazzaris (202-F-90) of Blumenau - 17 points and 7 rebounds
7. Rodrigo Maistro (200-SF-87) of Contagem - 23 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists
8. Abner Moreira (206-F/C-89) of Botafogo F.R. - 11 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists
9. Adriano Machado (208-C-83) of Santos/Macapa - 21 points and 5 rebounds
10. Durval Prado (200-G/F-92) of Brusque - 9 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
