Desmond Holloway claims Brazilian NBB weekly honour - Mar 25, 2017

  follow us on Facebook Twitter

American Desmond Holloway (191-G-90) put on an amazing game in the last round for Pinheiros and that's him to receive a Player of the Week award for round 27.
The 26-year old guard had the game-high 23 points adding five rebounds and six assists for Pinheiros in his team's victory, helping them to edge out Campo Mourao (#9, 13-13) 83-81. Pinheiros maintains the 6th position in Brazilian NBB. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Pinheiros will need more victories to improve their 15-11 record. It's Holloway's second year at Pinheiros and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Coastal Carolina College graduate has very impressive stats this year. Holloway is in league's top in points (5th best: 18.5ppg) and averages solid 53.1% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 29-year old American point guard Kenny Dawkins (175-PG-87) of Vitoria. Dawkins impressed basketball fans with 34 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Bad luck as Vitoria lost that game 84-90 to the lower-ranked Macae (#13, 6-20). Vitoria managed to keep the same 7th spot in the standings. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 15-11 record is not bad and everything may still change. Dawkins is a newcomer at Vitoria and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.

The third best performed player last round was Patrick Vieira (186-PG-93) of Caxias do Sul (#15). Vieira scored 22 points and grabbed five rebounds. Despite Vieira's great performance Caxias do Sul lost 80-82 to the higher-ranked Paulistano (#8, 14-12). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Caxias do Sul can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have extremely bad season and 6-21 record places them at the very bottom of the standings. Too bad for Vieira he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Vieira has individually a great season in Brazil. After 26 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 10.2ppg (6th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Cordero Bennett (188-G-88) of Pinheiros - 17 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists
5. David Jackson (195-G-82) of Vasco Da G. - 22 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists
6. Kendall Anthony (173-PG-93) of Macae - 24 points, 2 rebounds and 7 assists
7. Pedro Lima (191-SG-87) of Franca - 20 points, 3 rebounds and 5 assists
8. Isaac Thornton (190-G-91) of Campo Mourao - 31 points and 3 rebounds
9. Guilherme Giovannoni (203-PF-80) of Brasilia - 25 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists
10. Fulvio de Assis (188-PG-81) of Brasilia - 10 points, 5 rebounds and 17 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
