Jamaal Smith
31-year old point guard Jamaal Smith (175-PG-85) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for league's best team Botafogo F.R. and receives a Latinbasket.com Liga Ouro Player of the Week award for round 3.
He had the game-high 29 points adding three rebounds and six assists for Botafogo F.R. in his team's victory, helping them to edge out Blumenau (#5, 2-4) 89-85. It allowed Botafogo F.R. to consolidate first place in the Brazilian Liga Ouro. Botafogo F.R. have a solid 5-1 record. In the team's last game Smith had a remarkable three three-pointers out of 7 attempts. He just recently signed at Botafogo F.R., being already a very valuable addition to the team. University of New Mexico graduate has very impressive stats this year. Smith is league's best scorer averaging so far 17.7ppg and is league's best passer with 5.5apg. Smith is in league's top in and averages solid 63.6% FGP.

Second best performed player last round was Wesley Russell (193-G-93). He is American guard in his first season at Botafogo F.R.. In the last game Russell recorded impressive 29 points and 7 rebounds. Of course together with Smith he helped Botafogo F.R. with another comfortable win outscoring Blumenau (2-4) 90-64. The season is still at the very beginning and this victory may help a lot. Let's wait for the next round. Russell is a newcomer at Botafogo F.R. and quickly became one of team's most reliable players. Former Ohio Christian University star Russell is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market.

Third place about best performers goes to Diego Silva (206-C/F-90) of Blumenau (#5). Silva scored 20 points and grabbed ten rebounds. Despite Silva's great performance Blumenau lost 85-89 to Botafogo F.R. (#1, 5-1). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Blumenau not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 4 games, recording just two victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Silva could try to bring Blumenau's a little bit higher in the standings. Silva has individually a great season in Brazil. After only 6 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 10.8ppg (6th best), rebounds with 8.5rpg (2nd best) and assists with 2.2apg (9th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Tarvin Gaines (198-SF-91) of Blumenau - 26 points and 8 rebounds
5. Everton Oliveira (203-F-93) of Contagem - 17 points and 7 rebounds
6. Rodrigo Silva (207-C-87) of Brusque - 21 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists
7. Lucas Vezaro (188-G-96) of Joinville - 16 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists
8. Jeferson Froehlich (193-PG-91) of Joinville - 7 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists
9. Bruno Lazzaris (202-F-90) of Blumenau - 17 points and 6 rebounds
10. Rafinha da Silva (183-PG-88) of Botafogo F.R. - 13 points and 5 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Mogi das Cruzes/Helbor (NBB) landed 21-year old power forward Wesley Sena (210-96). He played in the summer at Contagem in the Liga Ouro. Sena managed to play in three leagues in two countries last year (!!!). In 18 Liga Ouro games he averaged 14.1ppg and 6.5rpg. He ended the last season at FC Barcelona in Spanish Liga Endesa.
