Here is the weekly review of the top performing Brazilian players, who play currently abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is an international center Rafael Hettsheimer (206-86, currently plays in Spain). He could not help Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (11-15) in their last game. Despite Hettsheimer's very good performance Baloncesto Fuenlabrada was edged 101-99 in a derby game by the higher-ranked (#4) Real Madrid. He was the second best scorer with 18 points (went 6 for 6 at the free throw line) in a mere 18 minutes on the court. This year Hettsheimer averages: 7.0ppg, 3.0rpg, 2FGP: 46.2% and FT: 85.7% in nine games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Brazilian and Spanish. Ex-Paschoalotto/Bauru player is currently a member of the Brazilian senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an experienced international center Nene Hilario (211-82, currently plays in NBA). Hilario led Houston Rockets to a victory against the Phoenix Suns (22-56) 123-116 in the NBA last Sunday. He scored 17 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. The Houston Rockets have a solid 52-25 record this season. They ended the series of three consecutive loses. It's Hilario's first year with the team. Hilario has relatively good stats this season: 9.0ppg, 4.2rpg, 2FGP: 62.0%(227-366), 3FGP: 33.3% and FT: 59.8%. He is in the roster of the Brazilian senior national team.

   #3. The Brazilian player who performed third best last week abroad was former international center Hatila Passos (211-85, college: N.Mexico St., currently plays in Uruguay). Passos contributed to a 1-point Malvin's victory against the fifth-ranked Bigua (7-7) 66-65 in a derby game in the Uruguayan LUB on Monday night. He had a double-double by scoring 10 points and getting 15 rebounds in 37 minutes. Malvin Montevideo (7-7) is placed fourth in Promocional 1 group. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. This year Passos' overall stats are: 9.5ppg, 10.5rpg, 1.1apg, 2FGP: 64.6%(106-164) and FT: 53.4% in 28 games. Former Paulistano/Unimed Sao Paolo starter played for the Brazilian national team seven years ago.

Point guard Rafael Freire Luz (188-92, currently plays in Euroleague) contributed to an easy victory against the 13th-ranked Galatasaray (10-19) crushing them 103-80 in the Euroleague in Friday night's game. He scored 6 points. Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz (17-12) is placed fifth in the Euroleague. Freire Luz's team will play only one more game in the Euroleague Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Freire Luz's total stats this season are: 2.2ppg and 1.5apg. He is another player who holds two passports: Brazilian and Spanish. Freire Luz is also Brazilian national team player.

   #5. International center Augusto Lima (207-91, currently plays in Lithuania) managed to help B.C. Zalgiris Kaunas in a victory against the seventh-ranked P.Zvaigzdes (12-17) crushing them 94-70 in the Lithuanian LKL last Sunday. He scored 5 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 15 minutes. B.C. Zalgiris Kaunas (26-3) is placed first in the LKL. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. This year Lima's total stats are: 6.2ppg and 4.5rpg in 26 games. He plays currently for the Brazilian national team.

Small forward Jonathan Tavernari (197-87, college: BYU, currently plays in Italy) led Mens Sana 1871 to a victory over the 11th-ranked Lighthouse TR (13-14) 85-71 in the Italian Serie A2 (second division) on Sunday night. Tavernari was MVP of the game. He scored 19 points. Mens Sana 1871 Siena (13-14) is placed 12th in West group. It was his team's first victory after five consecutive loses. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. This season Tavernari has relatively solid stats: 10.5ppg and 4.5rpg. He is a former international player as he played for the Brazilian senior team seven years ago.

   #7. International point guard Raul Neto (185-92, currently plays in NBA) contributed to an Utah Jazz's victory against the New Orleans Pelicans (33-44) 108-100 in the NBA in Monday night's game. Neto scored 5 points in 18 minutes. The Utah Jazz has a solid 47-30 record this season. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. This year Neto averages only 2.6ppg in 39 games. He is also Brazilian national team player.

Power forward Tiago Splitter (211-85, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in NBA) was not able to help the Philadelphia 76ers in their game against the Toronto Raptors (47-30) in the NBA. Splitter scored 6 points. The Philadelphia 76ers (27-50) were defeated 113-105 on the road by the Raptors. It was 76ers' third consecutive loss in a row. Splitter has averaged so far 4.3ppg and 2.3rpg. He used to play for the Brazilian national team back in 2014.

   #9. International forward Leonardo Demetrio (203-94, currently plays in Spain) was not able to secure a victory for Lleida Basquet (15-15) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Demetrio's good performance Lleida Basquet was defeated 92-82 in S'Arenal by the higher-ranked Palma (#8). He scored 12 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be important. It's Demetrio's first season with the team. Demetrio has reliable stats this year: 10.6ppg and 5.6rpg. He is also in the roster of the Brazilian national team.

   #1. Diego Soarez (205-C-87, currently plays in Uruguay). Soarez could not help U Universitario (10-4) to beat Defensor (6-8). He scored only 4 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 14 minutes. The second-placed U Universitario (10-4) was crushed 105-80 in a derby game by the lower-ranked (#7) Defensor in the Promocional 1 group. Soarez has averaged so far 4.0ppg and 3.6rpg in 28 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Brazilian and Uruguayan.

   #2. Thiago Makluf (210-C-87, currently plays in Lebanon) contributed to a 3-point Al Moutahed's victory against the leader Al Riyadi (16-5) 90-87 in the Lebanese Pepsi LBL last Saturday. Makluf scored 6 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in only 13 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in Group B. Al Moutahed Tripoli (12-9) is placed second. There are only three games left until the end of the Second Stage. So now every game will be critical. Makluf has averaged so far 1.3ppg and 1.3rpg in 13 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Brazilian and Lebanese.

   #3. Experienced Kazuya Hatano (192-F-82, currently plays in Japan) managed to help Ryukyu Golden Kings Okinawa to win against the third-ranked Diamond Dolphins (23-26) 83-69 in the Japanese B League on Sunday night. Hatano scored only 4 points. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in group West. Ryukyu Golden Kings Okinawa (24-25) is placed second. Hatano has averaged so far 2.8ppg and 2.6rpg. He has both Brazilian and Japanese nationalities.

   #4. Renato Ribeiro (190-F-95, currently plays in Portugal) was not able to help Guifoes in their game against Sangalhos (5-5) in the Portuguese Proliga (second division). Ribeiro scored 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 28 minutes. Buthis team lost 62-67 at home to the lower-ranked (#5) Sangalhos in the Places 9-16 group. There are only three games left until the end of the Second Stage. Ribeiro has averaged so far 5.8ppg and 3.8rpg in 23 games.

   #5. Clement Faroux (188-G-93, currently plays in France) was not able to secure a victory for Lorient (13-18) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his good performance Lorient was edged 86-85 on their home court in Lorient by the much higher-ranked Orchesien BC (#6). Faroux recorded 11 points, 4 assists and 4 steals. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. Faroux has averaged so far 7.7ppg, 3.2rpg, 2.9apg and 1.3spg. He also holds two passports: Brazilian and French. Despite Faroux's Brazilian nationality, he previously played for the French U18 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Brazilian team.

   #6. Daniel Aleixo (210-C-0, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Real Betis SVL 2 in their game against Novaschool in the Spanish EBA (fourth division). Aleixo scored only 4 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 14 minutes. His team was badly defeated by 17 points 91-74. Aleixo has averaged so far 3.6ppg and 4.1rpg in 13 games.

   #7. Gabriel de Oliveira (206-PF-97, currently plays in Germany) couldn't help Iserlohn in their game against Karlsruhe PS in the German ProB (third division). He cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. de Oliveira scored only 3 points. His team was defeated 84-75. de Oliveira has averaged so far 2.7ppg and 2.2rpg. He has dual citizenship: Brazilian and German.

   #8. Leandro Miranda (205-C-91, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Ponferrada CDP in their game against Gijon in the Spanish EBA (fourth division). Miranda scored 5 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 23 minutes. His team was edged 75-74. Miranda has averaged so far 7.2ppg, 5.8rpg, 1.2apg and 1.7bpg in 12 games.

Center Feliciano Perez (210-C-90) put on an amazing game in the last round for top-ranked Botafogo F.R., receiving a Latinbasket.com Liga Ouro Player of the Week award for round 7. The 26-year old player had a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds, while his team crushed Santos/Macapa (#5, 4-8) with 22-point margin 101-79. Liga Ouro Round 7: Blumenau loses to Joinville in the game between Top 4 teams - 2 days ago
Host teams show no mercy winning all games. Very significant was Joinville's (#3, 7-4) victory against 4th placed Blumenau (4-7) 78-74. It was a great evening for guard Lucas Vezaro (188-96) who led his team to a victory scoring 18 points. point guard Jeferson Froehlich (193-91) helped adding 15 points and 6 rebounds. Joinville's coach George Salles used entire bench in such tough game. At the losing side American guard Deonta Stocks (185-88, college: W.Georgia) responded with 20 points.    [read more]
