Here is the weekly review of the top performing Brazilian players, who play currently abroad.


Augusto Lima

   #1. This week's number one is an international center Augusto Lima (207-91, currently plays in Turkey). He contributed to Besiktas' victory against one of league's weakest teams Trabzonspor (0-1) 82-71 in the Turkish BSL in Sunday night's game. Lima recorded 10 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks in 18 minutes on the court. It was his first game for Besiktas this season. His team is placed first in the BSL. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Lima played for the Brazilian senior national team one years ago.

Hatila Passos

   #2. Second place goes to former international center Hatila Passos (211-85, college: N.Mexico St., currently plays in Uruguay). Passos could not help Malvin (8-1) in their last game. Despite his good performance Malvin lost 79-83 in a derby game to the lower-ranked (#8) U Universitario. Passos scored 12 points and grabbed 4 rebounds (was perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line) in 25 minutes. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. This year Passos averages: 9.3ppg, 7.3rpg, 2FGP: 64.3% and FT: 83.3% in three games he played so far. Former Paulistano/Unimed Sao Paolo starter played for the Brazilian national team in 2010.

   #3. The Brazilian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international forward Gerson Santo (206-91, college: Colorado St., currently plays in Argentina). He was not able to help Weber Bahia in their game against GECR Indalo (3-2) in the Argentinian LigaA. Santo recorded 5 points. The fourth-placed Weber Bahia (2-2) was defeated 92-87 at home by the second-ranked GECR Indalo in the Group D. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. It's Santo's first season with the team. His overall stats this year are: 6.3ppg, 5.3rpg. Santo played for the Brazilian national team one years ago.

   #4. Shooting guard Vitor Benite (194-90, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Spain) was not able to secure a victory for UCAM Murcia (1-2) in their game against CB Canarias (2-1) in the Spanish Liga Endesa, despite his very good performance last Wednesday. He was the top scorer with 13 points in a mere 19 minutes. But UCAM Murcia lost 78-84 on the road to the higher-ranked (#7) CB Canarias. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. This year Benite's overall stats are: 7.7ppg, 1.3rpg and 1.7apg in three games. He used to play for the Brazilian national team last year.

   #5. An experienced international point guard Marcelinho Huertas (191-83, currently plays in Spain) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Movil Estudiantes (0-3) 94-76 in the Spanish Liga Endesa on Thursday night. Huertas scored 6 points and added 3 passes. Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz (1-2) is placed tenth in the Liga Endesa. Huertas' total stats this season are: 9.0ppg, 2.7rpg, 3.3apg and 1.7spg. He has a dual citizenship: Brazilian and Italian. Huertas used to play for the Brazilian national team last year.

   #6. Point guard Ricardo Fischer (185-91, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help RETAbet BB (1-2) in their game against Real Madrid (3-0) in the Spanish Liga Endesa. He scored 6 points in only 14 minutes. RETAbet BB lost 80-87 on their home court in Bilbao to the much higher-ranked (#4) Real Madrid. This year Fischer's total stats are: 5.7ppg and 1.3apg in three games. He is a former international player as he played for the Brazilian senior team two years ago.

Former University international forward Matao de Souza (201-86, college: Idaho, currently plays in Denmark) couldn't help Stevnsgade (1-1) in their game against Randers (1-1) in the Danish Ligaen, despite his good performance on Thursday night. He had a double-double by scoring 11 points and getting 10 rebounds in 27 minutes. But Stevnsgade was crushed 89-67 on the opponent's court by the lower-ranked (#5) Randers. de Souza has relatively good stats this year: 11.0ppg, 7.0rpg and 2.0apg in three games. He used to play for the Brazilian university national team eight years ago.

Carlos Cobos

   #8. Guard Carlos Cobos (193-88, currently plays in Spain) managed to help Coviran Granada to win against the 12th-ranked Zamorano (0-2) crushing them 88-57 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) on Saturday night. He scored only one point and added 4 passes. Coviran Granada (2-0) is placed second in the LEB Silver. Cobos has averaged so far 3.0ppg, 4.0rpg, 5.0apg and 2.5spg. He used to play for the Brazilian national team back in 2010.


The list of other players, who all have Brazilian passport but never been selected to any of Brazilian national teams:

   #1. Diego Soarez (205-C-87, currently plays in Uruguay) was the major contributor in an U Universitario's victory against the closely-ranked Malvin (1-2) 83-79 in a derby game in the Uruguayan LUB last Tuesday. He recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 15 rebounds. Urunday Universitario (1-2) is placed eighth in the LUB. But the season just started, so everything may happen. Soarez has relatively good stats this year: 11.7ppg and 8.3rpg. He has a dual citizenship: Brazilian and Uruguayan.

   #2. Joao Gallina (192-SF-94, currently plays in Portugal) managed to help CAB Madeira to win against the ninth-ranked Electrico FC (0-1) crushing them 109-79 in the Portuguese LPB last Saturday. Gallina recorded 5 points. It was his first game for CAB Madeira this season. His team is placed fourth in the LPB. Gallina is another player who holds two passports: Brazilian and Portuguese.

   #3. Experienced Atilio de Mello (203-C-82, currently plays in Chile) led CD Tinguiririca San Fernando to a victory against the sixth-ranked Puerto Montt (1-3) 96-83 in the Chilean Liga Nacional in Sunday night's game. de Mello recorded 13 points. CD Tinguiririca San Fernando (1-3) is placed sixth in Conferencia Centro. It was his team's first victory after three consecutive loses. de Mello has averaged so far 10.0ppg and 4.3rpg.

   #4. Felipe Dos Anjos (218-C-98, currently plays in Spain). He could not help Burgos (2-0) to beat Unicaja Malaga (2-1). Dos Anjos cannot count Thursday's game as one of the best ones. He scored only 2 points in 4 minutes on the court. The league leader Burgos was crushed 93-72 on the road by the much lower-ranked (#9) Unicaja Malaga. Dos Anjos has averaged so far 1.0ppg and 1.5rpg in two games he played so far.

   #5. Gabriel de Oliveira (207-PF-97, currently plays in Germany) contributed to Iserlohn's victory against the 11th-ranked FC Bayern II (0-3) 87-80 in the German ProB (third division) in Sunday night's game. de Oliveira scored only 4 points, made 3 passes and 3 steals in 14 minutes. Iserlohn Kangaroos (3-0) is placed second in South group. So far his team won all three games in the Regular Season. de Oliveira has been at the team for five years. He has averaged so far 5.7ppg, 3.3rpg, 1.3apg and 1.3spg in three games. de Oliveira has both Brazilian and German nationalities.

   #6. Angelo Guaccio (193-F/G-98, currently plays in Italy) was not able to help Piacenza in their game against Lecco in the Italian Serie B (third division). He cannot count Sunday's game as one of the best ones. Guaccio scored only 2 points. His team was crushed by 22 points 95-73. This season he averages just 5.0ppg.

33-year old point guard Paulinho Boracini (183-PG-84) put on an amazing game in the last round for B.Cearense and receives a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for round 7. He had the game-high 27 points adding five rebounds and five assists for B.Cearense in his team's victory, helping them to beat Vasco Da G. (#15, 1-5) 85-76. NBB Round 7: Caxias do Sul defeats leader Mogi - 4 days ago
The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with loss of the undefeated team, derby games and games ending by tiny margin. The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Mogi (6-1) on the court of fourth ranked Caxias do Sul on Thursday night. Visitors were edged by Caxias do Sul 66-65.
