Here is the weekly review of the top performing Brazilian players, who play currently abroad.


Marcelinho Huertas

   #1. This week's number one is an experienced international point guard Marcelinho Huertas (191-83, currently plays in Spain). He was the major contributor in Baskonia's victory against the closely-ranked Blusens Monbus (7-3) 85-78 in the Spanish Liga Endesa in Sunday night's game. Huertas recorded 16 points and added 9 passes (made all of his six free throws) in 25 minutes on the court. Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz (6-4) is placed seventh in the Liga Endesa. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. It's Huertas' first year with the team. This season he averages: 7.8ppg, 2.4rpg, 4.6apg, 2FGP: 57.1%(20-35), 3FGP: 26.7% and FT: 77.8% in 10 games he played so far. Huertas has a dual citizenship: Brazilian and Italian. He played for the Brazilian senior national team one years ago.

Gerson Santo

   #2. Second place goes to an international forward Gerson Santo (206-91, college: Colorado St., currently plays in Argentina). Santo could not help Weber Bahia (1-3) to beat Obras Basket (1-0). He recorded 8 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Weber Bahia was badly defeated 75-59 on the road by the much higher-ranked Obras Basket (#6). It was Weber Bahia's third consecutive loss in a row. But the season just started, so everything may happen. Santo's overall stats this year are: 5.3ppg, 5.0rpg, 2FGP: 77.8%. He played for the Brazilian national team in 2016.

   #3. The Brazilian player who performed third best last week abroad was former University international power forward Daniel Bordignon (203-96, currently plays in Argentina) is a teammate of previously mentioned Gerson Santo. But that was another game of his team in Argentinian LigaA which we would like to mention. Bordignon. He was not able to help Weber Bahia in their game against Hispano Americano de Rio Gallegos (1-1). Bordignon scored 6 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 19 minutes. Weber Bahia was badly defeated 106-90 in Rio Gallegos by the higher-ranked (#12) Hispano Americano de. It's Bordignon's first season with the team. This year Bordignon's overall stats are: 4.3ppg, 3.3rpg, 1.7apg, 2FGP: 42.9%, 3FGP: 14.3% in three games. He played for the Brazilian university national team two years ago.

Center Augusto Lima (207-91, currently plays in Turkey) contributed to a 3-point Besiktas' victory against the closely-ranked Anadolu Efes (6-3) 67-64 in a derby game in the Turkish BSL in Sunday night's game. Lima scored 6 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Besiktas Sompo Japan Istanbul (7-2) is placed second in the BSL. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. Lima's total stats this season are: 7.0ppg and 3.6rpg. He used to play for the Brazilian national team last year.

International shooting guard Vitor Benite (194-90, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Spain) led UCAM Murcia to a victory against the 14th-ranked Movil Estudiantes (3-6) 91-79 in the Spanish Liga Endesa last Sunday. Benite recorded 13 points in a mere 18 minutes. Universidad Catolica de Murcia CB (5-5) is placed tenth in the Liga Endesa. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. Benite has relatively good stats this year: 12.2ppg and 1.8rpg in 10 games. He plays currently for the Brazilian national team.

   #6. Power forward Cristiano Felicio (206-92, college: Oregon, currently plays in NBA) was not able to secure a victory for the Chicago Bulls (3-18) in their last game. Despite Felicio's good performance the Chicago Bulls (3-18) were edged 107-106 in Sacramento by the Kings. He scored 12 points in a mere 16 minutes. It was Bulls' eighth consecutive loss in a row. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. This year Felicio's total stats are: 4.0ppg and 3.1rpg in 19 games. He is international player as he played for the Brazilian senior team one years ago.

   #7. International center Nene Hilario (211-82, currently plays in NBA) contributed to an easy victory against the Los Angeles Lakers (8-15) crushing them 118-95 in the NBA last Sunday. Hilario scored 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. The Houston Rockets have a very good 18-4 record this season. It was his team's seventh consecutive victory in a row. This season Hilario has relatively solid stats: 7.9ppg, 3.2rpg and 1.1apg. He used to play for the Brazilian national team last year.

   #8. Point guard Ricardo Fischer (185-91, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help RETAbet BB (3-7) in their game against Burgos (2-8) in the Spanish Liga Endesa. Fischer was the second best scorer with 9 points. He also added 3 passes in 23 minutes. But RETAbet BB was badly defeated 78-62 at home by the one of league's weakest teams (#17) Burgos. It was RETAbet BB's fourth consecutive loss in a row. Fischer has averaged so far 5.6ppg, 1.4rpg and 2.1apg in 10 games. He plays currently for the Brazilian national team.

Former U19 international center Felipe Braga (213-94, currently plays in Argentina) contributed to a Parque Sur's victory against the fourth-ranked Gimnasia LP (7-5) 78-72 in the Argentinian TNA (second division) in Friday night's game. Braga scored 17 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Parque Sur de Concepcion del Uruguay (8-4) is placed second in Center South group. It was Parque Sur's fourth consecutive victory in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Braga has averaged so far 6.3ppg, 3.7rpg and 1.3bpg. He used to play for the Brazilian U19 national team four years ago.

Small forward Jonathan Tavernari (197-87, college: BYU, currently plays in Italy) managed to help Banco di Sardegna Sassari to win against the league outsider New Basket BR (2-7) crushing them 90-66 in the Italian Serie A on Sunday night. Tavernari scored only 3 points. Banco di Sardegna Sassari (5-4) is placed sixth in the Serie A. This season Tavernari averages just 2.7ppg. He is a former international player as seven years ago he still played for the Brazilian senior national team.

   #11. International forward Leonardo Demetrio (208-94, currently plays in Spain) helped Leche Rio Breogan win their game against the 12th-ranked Palma 93-80 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) in Wednesday night's game. Demetrio scored 13 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 24 minutes. Demetrio has averaged so far 9.3ppg and 6.2rpg in 12 games. He used to play for the Brazilian national team last year.

   #12. International point guard Raul Neto (185-92, currently plays in NBA) helped Utah Jazz win their game against the Denver Nuggets crushing them 106-77 in the NBA last Tuesday. Neto scored only 4 points. Neto has averaged so far 5.1ppg, 1.3rpg and 1.9apg. He used to play for the Brazilian national team last year.

   #13. Former international center Lucas Nogueira (213-92, currently plays in NBA) helped Toronto Raptors win their game against the Charlotte Hornets 126-113 in the NBA on Wednesday night. Nogueira recorded only 3 points in 8 minutes on the court. Nogueira has averaged so far 3.9ppg, 2.7rpg and 1.2bpg in 17 games. He used to play for the Brazilian national team six years ago.

   #14. International guard Danilo Fuzaro (193-94, currently plays in Spain) is a teammate of previously mentioned Leonardo Demetrio and both played together in the last Spanish LEB Gold game. Fuzaro helped Leche Rio Breogan win their game against the 12th-ranked Palma 93-80. He scored 11 points and had 3 steals. Fuzaro has averaged so far 8.3ppg and 1.6rpg. He plays currently for the Brazilian national team.

   #15. Former international guard Carlos Cobos (193-88, currently plays in Spain) helped CB Granada win their game against the ninth-ranked Cambados 69-66 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) in Saturday night's game. He scored only 4 points and added 3 assists. Cobos has averaged so far 6.3ppg, 3.4rpg, 3.2apg and 1.3spg. He used to play for the Brazilian national team seven years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Brazilian passport but never been selected to any of Brazilian national teams:

   #1. Rodrigo Goncalves (203-F-87, currently plays in Argentina) led Ciclista to a victory over the fifth-ranked Villa Mitre CF (7-6) 76-72 in the Argentinian TNA (second division) on Friday night. Goncalves was MVP of the game. He recorded a double-double by scoring 22 points and getting 11 rebounds. Ciclista Juninense (7-4) is placed third in Center South group. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Goncalves has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 20.2ppg, 7.1rpg and 1.1apg.

   #2. Diego Soarez (205-C-87, currently plays in Uruguay). Soarez could not help U Universitario (5-7) to beat Goes (3-8). He scored only 4 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 18 minutes. U Universitario lost 85-92 in a derby game to the league outsider (#13) Goes. The Regular Season already ended. Soarez has averaged so far 10.0ppg, 7.5rpg, 1.5apg and 1.2spg in 11 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Brazilian and Uruguayan.

   #3. Joao Gallina (192-SF-94, currently plays in Portugal) contributed to a CAB Madeira's victory against the seventh-ranked Terceira (5-5) 96-83 in the Portuguese LPB last Friday. Gallina recorded 8 points in only 9 minutes. CAB Madeira (6-2) is placed third in the LPB. Gallina has averaged so far 5.6ppg and 3.3rpg in 10 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Brazilian and Portuguese. Despite Gallina's Brazilian nationality, he previously played for the Portuguese U20 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Brazilian team.

   #4. Experienced Kazuya Hatano (192-F-82, currently plays in Japan) was not able to help Shimane Magic in their game against Levanga Hokkaido Sapporo (10-9) in the Japanese B1 League. Hatano scored 6 points. The fifth-placed Shimane Magic (5-14) was defeated 88-84 on the road by the lower-ranked Levanga Hokkaido Sapporo (#5) in the West group. Hatano has averaged so far 4.3ppg, 2.5rpg and 1.3apg. He has both Brazilian and Japanese nationalities. Despite Hatano's Brazilian passport, he previously played for the Japanese U22 national team and probably cannot be called to the Brazilian team.

   #5. Sidnei De Santana (216-C-83, agency: Duran International, currently plays in Spain) managed to help Carrefour El Bulevar de Avila in a victory against one of league's weakest teams Martorell (1-10) 75-70 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) in Saturday night's game. De Santana scored only 4 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 26 minutes. Carrefour El Bulevar de Avila (7-4) is placed eighth in the LEB Silver. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. De Santana has averaged so far 8.9ppg and 5.9rpg in nine games. He also holds two passports: Brazilian and Spanish.

   #6. Clement Faroux (188-G-93, currently plays in France) was the major contributor in Lorient's victory against the closely-ranked La Charite 89-86 in the French NM1 (third division) last Saturday. Faroux scored 14 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and dished 7 assists. Faroux has averaged so far 8.8ppg, 4.2rpg, 4.4apg and 1.5spg. He holds both Brazilian and French passports. Despite Faroux's Brazilian nationality, he previously played for the French U18 national team.

   #7. Angelo Guaccio (193-F/G-98, currently plays in Italy) helped Piacenza win their game against the second-ranked Cento 74-65 in the Italian Serie B (third division) on Saturday night. Guaccio scored 8 points in only 12 minutes. Guaccio has averaged so far 4.8ppg and 1.9rpg in 10 games.

Mogi - Paulistano 82-99 Paulistano got to a confident start of NBB Finals. They cruised past Mogi das Cruzes on the road to grab the lead. The game was mostly controlled by Paulistano. Mogi managed to win third quarter 32-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international point guard Deryk Ramos (185-94) who helped to win the game recording 23 points. LOUIS MUNKS 27-year old guard Louis Munks (190-G-90) had a great game in the last round for Brasilia and receives a Interperformances Liga Ouro Player of the Week award for round 14. He had the game-high 22 points adding three rebounds for Brasilia in his team's victory, helping them to outclass Cerrado (#9, 1-15) with 39-point margin 104-65.
