Coincidentally all hosts won their games.

The most exciting game of round 6 in the NBB took place in Mogi das Cruzes. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 10th ranked Campo Mourao (2-6) to top-ranked Mogi (5-0) 72-69 on Saturday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Larry Taylor (185-80, college: Missouri Western) who scored 16 points and 6 assists. American forward Tyrone Curnell (203-88, college: Valdosta St.) chipped in 12 points and 8 rebounds. Mogi's coach Jorge Guerra used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Greg Brown (188-94, college: St.Francis, PA) who recorded a double-double by scoring 19 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Undefeated Mogi have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 5-0 record. Campo Mourao at the other side keeps the tenth place with six games lost. Mogi are looking forward to face Joinville (#12) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Campo Mourao will have a break next round.
SKY/Basquete can celebrate finally their first win this season after two consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Botafogo F.R. (1-5) 61-47. It was a good game for the former international Betinho Nardi-Duarte (195-88) who led his team to a victory with 17 points and 5 rebounds. Paulinho Boracini contributed with 15 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. SKY/Basquete's coach Alberto Bial used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Center Atila Santos (208-83, college: Minn.St.-Mankato) replied with 13 points and 7 rebounds for Botafogo F.R.SKY/Basquete (1-2) left bottom position moving up to eleventh place. It was Botafogo F.R.'s fourth loss in a row. They dropped to the fifteenth position with five games lost. SKY/Basquete will play against higher ranked Paulistano (#8) in Sao Paulo in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Botafogo F.R. will have a break next round.
The game in Sao Paulo was also quite interesting. One of their biggest challengers Paschoalotto/Bauru (3-2) played at the court of sixth ranked Vivo/Franca (3-2). Vivo/Franca managed to secure a 4-point victory 87-83 on Saturday. Leonardo Meindl scored 25 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners. Vivo/Franca's coach Helinho Garcia allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The best for the losing side was Alex Garcia with 14 points and 5 assists. Vivo/Franca moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Bauru. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Rest of the games of round 6 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
L.Sorocaba was defeated by Caxias do Sul in a road game 82-66. Minas beat Joinville at home 69-52. Joinville lost to Flamengo on the opponent's court 75-86.

Pinheiros - Campo Mourao 80-51

The game with biggest result difference took place in Sao Paulo. Local Pinheiros (4-0) outscored 10th ranked Campo Mourao (2-6) 80-51. Center Ralfi Ansaloni (211-87) notched 17 points and 9 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) to lead the effort and American guard Desmond Holloway (191-90, college: Co.Carolina) supported him with 21 points. Even 12 points and 5 rebounds by forward Cesar Araujo (201-81) did not help to save the game for Campo Mourao. The former international Marcio Dornelles (196-75) added 15 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Pinheiros have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 4-0 record behind leader Mogi. Campo Mourao at the other side keeps the tenth place with six games lost. Pinheiros' next round opponent will be Caxias do Sul (#7) on the road.

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both eighth ranked Caxias do Sul and 9th ranked Liga Sorocaba had identical 2-3 record. This time Caxias do Sul used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Sorocabana 82-66. Caxias do Sul dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Liga Sorocaba's 28. Caxias do Sul forced 19 Liga Sorocaba turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. Alexandre de-Souza (202-92) notched 24 points and 9 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and guard Caue-Borges dos-Santos (180-91) supported him with 12 points and 6 rebounds. Four Caxias do Sul players scored in double figures. Even 24 points (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) by American guard Anton Cook (188-95, college: SE Oklahoma) did not help to save the game for Liga Sorocaba. Center Rafael Rodrigues (213-87) added 17 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Caxias do Sul (3-3) moved-up to seventh place. Liga Sorocaba lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with four games lost. Caxias do Sul's next round opponent will be higher ranked Pinheiros (#3) in Sao Paulo and it may be quite challenging game. Liga Sorocaba will play on the road against Joinville (#12) and hope to win that game.

Forward Wesley Ferreira (201-95) notched 18 points and 6 rebounds to lead the effort and the former international Guilherme Teichmann (206-83, college: Tulsa) supported him with 10 points and 8 rebounds. Even 20 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) by guard Felipe Vezaro (193-92, college: Texas A&M Int.) did not help to save the game for Joinville. Flamengo outrebounded Joinville 46-23 including a 30-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Joinville's players. The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with loss of the undefeated team, derby games and games ending by tiny margin. Contagem Towers (Liga Ouro) inked 32-year old point guard Alexandre Pinheiro (185-85). It is actually his comeback to Contagem as he has played here before. Pinheiro played most recently at Minas in the NBB. In 27 games he averaged 4.0ppg, 2.7rpg and 2.5apg last season. Liga Ouro will be definitely a better match and he can see more playing time. Contagem Towers (Liga Ouro) landed 25-year old center Moises de Lima (213-92). He played in the summer at Basquete Joinville/AABJ in the NBB. NBB was a little too high level for him, where in 13 games he averaged just 0.5ppg and 1.2rpg. Liga Ouro will be definitely a better match and he can see more playing time. de Lima helped them to make it to the final.
