Alexandre
de Souza
Alexandre de Souza (202-SF-92) had an amazing evening in the last round for Caxias do Sul and that's him to receive a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for round 6.
The 25-year old had the game-high 24 points adding nine rebounds and three assists for Caxias do Sul in his team's victory, helping them to crush L.Sorocaba (#9, 2-4) with 16-point margin 82-66. Caxias do Sul is placed at 7th position in Brazilian NBB. Caxias do Sul is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 3-3 record. It was one of impressive evenings for de Souza as usually he does not deliver so high stats. Alexandre de Souza averages this season 11.5ppg and 7.2rpg.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 24-year old international Leonardo Meindl (201-SF-93) of Franca. Meindl impressed basketball fans with 25 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. It was enough for Franca to edge Bauru (3-2) by 4 points 87-83. This victory allowed Franca to move up to 5th position in the standings. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 3-2 record is not bad and everything may still change. Meindl is a newcomer at Franca and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 15.8ppg (#8). His other stats are also decent: 6.2rpg and 3.8apg.

The third best performed player last round was American Greg Brown (188-G-94) of Campo Mourao (#10). Brown showcased his all-around game by recording 19 points, ten rebounds and four assists in the last round. Despite Brown's great performance Campo Mourao lost 69-72 to the league's current leader Mogi (#1, 5-0). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Campo Mourao can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 2-6 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Brown he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Brown has individually a great season in Brazil. After only 7 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 15.9ppg (7th best). Brown attended one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on his way to pro basketball.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Rafael Rodrigues (213-C-87) of L.Sorocaba - 17 points and 9 rebounds
5. Ralfi Ansaloni (211-C-87) of Pinheiros - 17 points and 9 rebounds
6. Anton Cook (188-G-95) of L.Sorocaba - 24 points and 4 rebounds
7. Marquinhos Vieira (207-SF-84) of Flamengo - 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists
8. Wesley Ferreira (201-F-95) of Minas - 18 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists
9. Felipe Vezaro (193-G-92) of Joinville - 20 points and 4 rebounds
10. Henrique Coelho (183-PG-93) of Franca - 16 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Marquinhos Vieira claims Brazilian NBB Interperformances weekly honour - 19 hours ago

NBB Round 21: Leader Paulistano gets another victory - 1 day ago
The Regular Season in NBB is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 5 rounds. The round 21 was rather boring as all games ended with very predictable results. Here is the last round review presented by ESL. Leader Paulistano delivered the nineteenth win on Saturday night. This time they crushed 7th ranked Universo/Vitoria (11-11) 90-68 in Salvador. Paulistano made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. The...   [read more]
