Tyrone Curnell claims Brazilian NBB weekly honour - Jan 10, 2018

  follow us on Facebook Twitter

American Tyrone Curnell (203-F-88) put on an amazing game in the last round for league's leader Mogi and that's him to receive a Interperformances Player of the Week award for round 12.
The 29-year old forward had a double-double of 19 points and ten rebounds, while his team crushed Minas (#7, 6-4) with 17-point margin 82-65. It allowed Mogi to consolidate first place in the Brazilian NBB. Mogi have a solid 10-2 record. In the team's last game Curnell had a remarkable 62.5% from 2-point range. He has many years of experience at Mogi, through which he has constantly improved. Tyrone Curnell averages this season 11.4ppg and 6.1rpg.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 31-year old Spanish center Rafael Hettsheimer (206-C-86) of Bauru. Hettsheimer impressed basketball fans with 24 points and 7 rebounds. Of course he led Bauru to another comfortable win 77-60 over the lower-ranked Botafogo F.R. (#12, 2-8) being unquestionably team leader. Bauru's 5th position in the standings has not changed. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 8-4 record is not bad and everything may still change. Hettsheimer is a newcomer at Bauru and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.

The third best performed player last round was another Mogi's star - American Shamell Stallworth (195-SG-80). Stallworth scored 28 points and grabbed six rebounds. Despite Stallworth's great performance Mogi lost 80-84 to #3 ranked Paulistano. But his team cannot count on just these two top stars as they also need help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. Mogi had another "accident". It may be a crucial game and cause dropping from the group of top ranked teams. The record is still good, but 2nd lost game is hopefully really an accident. Stallworth's teammates are also very good. That's why having such high stats is even more impressive. Stallworth has a great season in Brazil. After 12 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 16.5ppg (4th best). Shamell Stallworth has also Brazilian passport and can play in the league with a status of domestic player.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Lucas Cipolini (206-PF-86) of Franca - 16 points and 12 rebounds
5. Desmond Holloway (191-G-90) of Pinheiros - 18 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists
6. Luis Gustavo de Oliveira (190-G-91) of Vasco Da G. - 17 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists
7. Alex Garcia (191-G-80) of Bauru - 19 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists
8. Joao Paulo Batista (205-C/F-81) of Flamengo - 17 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists
9. Guilherme Giovannoni (203-PF-80) of Vasco Da G. - 17 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists
10. Cordero Bennett (188-G-88) of Pinheiros - 16 points

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
