Varejao may be back at Franca - Jan 12, 2018

Anderson
Varejao
Vivo/Franca Basquete Sao Paulo (NBB) is about to agree terms with experienced 36-year old Brazilian international center Anderson Varejao (211-118kg-82) who currently played at Golden State Warriors in NBA. It will actually be his comeback to Vivo/Franca as he has played here before. But in 14 NBA games he had just 1.3ppg and 1.9rpg last season.
The previous (15-16) season Varejao played at the Warriors in NBA where in 39 games he recorded only 2.0ppg and 1.8rpg.
In 2004 Varejao was drafted by Orlando Magic (NBA) in second round (30th overall).
He was voted NBA All-Defensive 2nd Team back in 2010.
Varejao also represented Brazil at the Olympic Games in London (United Kingdon) six years ago. His stats at that event were 6 games: 7.3ppg, 7.0rpg, 1.0spg, FGP: 56.3%, FT: 80.0%.
Varejao's career allowed him to visit three different continents. He tasted the life as pro basketball player in Europe, Latin America and of course North America. Varejao has played previously professionally in Spain (FC Barcelona) and NBA (Cleveland Cavaliers).
He is close to retirement age as a player. It's very possible he may end his playing career at Franca.
On Varejao: This guy flies, and has a great sense for the rebound and very quick feet, but he never showed improvements in his offensive skills during his first three pro seasons: he can't really shoot, dribble or pass. It is very probable he will never be anything more than a role player, able to spend time at the 4 and 5 positions.
Outlook (by NBADraft.TK):
Positives: Aggresive rebounder who constantly crashes the boards. Great athlete for his size and good mobility and lateral quickness. Runs the floor well. Good rebounding and shot blocking skills. Good touch around the basket. Intense player who plays the game with tremendous heart.
Negatives: Still very raw although he is gaining experience in the professional league. Terrible free throw shooter. Does not have many low post moves. Would benefit greatly from added bulk

NBB is at the halfway of the Regular Season and there are still another 13 rounds left. NBB round 13 caused change at the leadership position.
