Rider adds Southern Miss transfer Norville Carey - Jul 24, 2016

Rider has beefed up its frontcourt for the 2016-17 season with the addition of Southern Mississippi transfer Norville Carey.

Carey, a 6-foot-7, 228-pound forward, is eligible immediately as a graduate transfer, a source confirmed.

CBS Sports first reported the move.

Carey last played as a junior in 2014-15, averaging 10.8 points and 5.6 rebounds for the Golden Eagles. He started 16 of 27 games as Southern Miss went 9-20.

He red-shirted this past season as a program plagued by a NCAA investigation and postseason ban went 8-21.

Carey, a native of the British Virgin Islands, gives head coach Kevin Baggett an experienced body he desperately needs. The Broncs only return five scholarship players - Jimmie Taylor, Kahlil Thomas, Xavier Lundy, Kealen Ives and Anthony Durham - and will be bleeding in up to seven freshmen next season.

Carey should team up with Thomas (11.7 points, 8.0 rebounds) and Lundy (10.5 points, 4.1 rebounds) to form a formidable, although undersized, frontcourt rotation.

Rider is coming off a 13-20 campaign in which it finished eighth in the MAAC (8-12).
