Jamaica celebrate title in Tortola - Jul 13, 2014

Jamaica - Dominican Republic 51-45
Jamaica lifts up the trophy at the CBC Championship. They overcame Dominican Republic 51:45 and won the Championship. Both teams qualified to the 2014 Centrobasket Championship for Women. Jamaica won the first period 14-12, while the opponents toed the game at the halftime after a 10-8 victory in the second frame. The second half however belonged to Jamaica that posted two victories. They won the third period 12-8 and finished the game with a 17-15 rally. Shenneika Smith (185-F/C-89, college: St.John's) and Sasha Dixon (167-G-87) top-scored for the winners with 14 points each, while Jennifer George (183-F, college: Florida) collected 13 points and 13 rebounds. Yohanna Morton (172-G-87, college: Robert Morris) responded with 9 points in a loss and Melissa SANTOS brought 8.
3-4 Place
U.S. Virgin Islands - Trinidad and Tobago 65-52
Trinidad and Tobago started stronger and won the first period 17-15. The erst of the game however belonged to Virgin Islands. The latter replied with a 19-12 rally in the second frame and grabbed a 5-point half-time advantage. Moreover they added 15-7 rally in the third period and increased to 13 points. Both teams scored 16 points each in the last stanza for the final result in the game. Virgin Islands step on pedestal of the CBC Championship and advance to 2014 Centrobasket Championship for Women. They overcame Trinidad and Tobago 65:52 and clinched third place at the tournament. Natalie Day (182-G/F-90, college: Portland) paced all the winners with 16 points and Tanecka Carey (175-G-91) brought 15. Victoria Hamilton (178-G-91) followed them with 14 points in a win. John-Davis ended up with 14 points in a loss and Alicia Liverpool (188-C-85) delivered 11.

5-6 Place
Barbados - Bahamas 54-102
Bahamas clinch 5th place in Tortola at the CBC Championship. They smashed Barbados 102:54 in their last game. The latter finished on the 6th position. Bahamas started strong and opened the game with a 25-14 surge. They never looked behind after and added massive 29-10 burst in the second period. Moreover Bahamas posted two more victories in the second half for the final result. Leashia Grant (185-F) top-scored for the winners with 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Shanea Armbrister (180-F) had 19. Knowles Debinique Shakira delivered 15, while Jones Jonquel produced 13. Dale-Marie Cumberbatch (180-F-88) replied with 28 points in a loss and Toni Atherley (173-G-83, college: Fresno St.) chipped in 11.

7-8 Place
Saint Vincent - Guyana 69-40
Saint Vincent top Guyana for the 7th place at the CBC Championship. They posted a 69:40 victory to escape the last spot at the tournament. Saint Vincent opened the game with a 15-4 surge and never looked behind after. Guyana managed however to win the second period 19-13, but failed in the second half. Saint Vincent posted an 18-6 run in the third period and finished the game with a 23-11 surge. Vasha Adams (183-F/C-83) led the way with 25 points and 12 rebounds while Sorayah Williams (183-F-84) and Galeine Gordon (180-F-85) poured in 13 each. Natasha Alder (180-F) answered with 21 points and 13 rebounds in a loss and Shanna Chester (167-F) added 7.


Jamaica and Dominican Republic advance into Final in Tortola - Jul 12, 2014

SEMIFINALS
Jamaica - U.S. Virgin Islands 49-46
Jamaica advanced to the Final of the CBC Championship as they needed a push in the final period against Virgin Islands. Jamaica posted a 49:46 win due to 22-13 run in the last 10 minutes. Both teams nailed 14 points each in the first period and then Vigrin Islands managed to win the second and the third periods. The latter led 6 points entering the last stanza, but could not seal the victory. Jamaica erupted with a final push and won the game. Shenneika Smith (185-F/C-89, college: St.John's) paced all the winners with 18 points, while Jennifer George (183-F, college: Florida) collected 17 points and 19 rebounds. Natalie Day (182-G/F-90, college: Portland) ended up with 16 points and 15 rebounds in a loss and Tanecka Carey (175-G-91) scored 14. Akkema Richards finished the game with 7 points.

Dominican Republic - Trinidad and Tobago 63-38
Dominican Republic ease past Trinidad and Tobago to enter the Final at the CBC Championship. They reached an easy 63:38 win and will take on Jamaica in the Final tomorrow. Trinidad and Tobago meanwhile will play against Virgin Islands in the game for the third place. Dominican Republic opened the game with a 12-4 run and never looked behind. They added 16-11 rally in the second frame and increased to 13 point at the halftime. Moreover Dominican Republic won the third period 15-7 and finished the game with a 20-16 run. Danilsa Andujar (188-C) top-scored for the winners with 13 points and Marlem Caceres (179-PF-88) posted 10. Monsac Sierra scored 9, whilst Morton Gautreaux notched 8. Jowan Ortega (173-G-85, college: UMKC) produced 11 points in a loss and Davis Rhonda had 8.
5-8 Place
Bahamas - Guyana 113-27
Bahamas demolish Guyana at the Reclassification Round of the CBC Championship. They erupted for a 113:27 win and will take on Barbados tomorrow in the game for 5-6 places. Guyana meanwhile will take on Saint Vincent in the game for 7-8 places. Bahamas won the first period 29-10 and reduced the amount of points of the opponents in the rest of the quarters. They limited Guyana to 6 points in the second frame and allowed to score only 4 in the third period. Jonquell Jones (193-F) paced all the winners with 21 points and Philicia Kelly (175-F-89) as well as Debinique Knowles (178-F, college: Northeast CC) produced 17 apiece. Britenique Harrison (193-C-94) followed them with 10 points in a win. Natasha Alder (180-F) responded with 17 points in a loss, whilst Lowquantor Gibson and Tamara Hunter delivered 3 each.

Saint Vincent - Barbados 63-70
Barbados open Reclassification Round with the win over Saint Vincent at the CBC Championship. They posted a 70:63 win and will take on Bahamas tomorrow for the 5th place. Saint Vincent will play against Guyana in the game for 7-8 places. Barbados won the first period 15-10 and led 4 points at the halftime. Saint Vincent reduced to 2 points entering the last period, but could not win the game. Due to 19-14 run in the last stanza Barbados celebrated the victory. Dale-Marie Cumberbatch (180-F-88) top-scored for the winners with 24 points and Maria Cumberbatch (163-SG) netted 15. Toni Atherley followed them with 14 points. Vasha Adams (183-F/C-83) collected 18 points and 12 rebounds in a loss and Galeine Gordon (180-F-85) poured in 17.

Barbados - Bahamas 59-84
Bahamas keep Barbados winless at the CBC Championship. Bahamas improved to 2-1 record after an 84:59 win, while Barbados fell at 0-3 record. Barbados managed to win the first period 17-15, while the opponents dominated the rest of the game. Bahamas posted a 22-14 rally in the second frame and added 24-8 in the third quarter. Moreover they closed the game with a final 23-20 for the second win. Shanea Armbrister (180-F) top-scored for the winners with 25 points and Jonquell Jones collected 14 points and 12 rebounds. Britenique Harrison (193-C-94) followed them with 10 points in a win. Dale-Marie Cumberbatch (180-F-88) ended up with 24 points in a loss and Toni Atherley (173-G-83, college: Fresno St.) had 15 points and 10 rebounds. Ruth Gill nailed 7 and Maria CUMBERBATCH scored 6.

U.S. Virgin Islands - Dominican Republic 61-65
Dominican Republic beat Virgin Islands to win Group A of the CBC Championship. They needed a narrow 65:61 win for 2-1 record. Virgin Islands also advanced to the Semifinals with the same 2-1 record. Dominican Republic started the game strong and posted a 26-16 win in the first period. Virgin Islands responded with a 13-11 rally in the second frame and reduced to 8 points at the halftime. Again Dominican Republic increased the lead to 12 points as they won the third period 17-13, while Virgin Islands won the last stanza 19-11 to seal the place at the Semifinals. Jennifer Estrella (183-G-88) paced all the winners with 12 points, while Marlem Caceres (179-PF-88) and Yamel Abreu notched 10 each. Ranai Evans (168-SF-97) ended up with 15 points in a loss and Tanecka Carey (175-G-91) scored 14. Akkema Richards delivered 12, whilst Victoria Hamilton brought 8.

Group B
Guyana - Saint Vincent 57-73
Saint Vincent claimed the first victory at the CBC Championship. They outgunned Guyana for 1-2 record in Group B. Shavern Weekes tallied 17 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Saint Vincent accounted for a 14:9 lead after the first frame. They stretched the margin at 16-point halftime advantage. Guyana narrowed the deficit at 10-point at the final intermission. But Saint Vincent unloaded 23 points in the fourth stanza to seal the victory. Sorayah Williams (183-F-84) netted 16 points and collected 11 rebounds, while Vasha Adams added 10 points and 13 boards in the win. Sonia Rodney (160-SG) topscored with 13 points for Guyana. Shakeila Sampson (165-SG) had 11 points in the defeat.

Trinidad and Tobago - Jamaica 35-49
Jamaica registered the third consecutive victory at the CBC Championship. They overcame Trinidad and Tobago to win Group B with a perfect 3-0 record. Jamaica will now take on Virgin Islands in the semis. Trinidad and Tobago finished second in the standings and would face Dominican Republic in the playoffs. Jamaica stayed in control throughout the game. They registered a 15:9 lead ten minutes into the game. Jamaica boosted the margin to 10 points at halftime 27:17. Trinidad and Tobago pulled within 9 points at the final intermission 29:38. But Jamaica held their opponents to just 6 points in the fourth term and sealed the winning outcome. Jennifer George (183-F, college: Florida) had 15 points and 10 rebounds for Jamaica. Shenneika Smith (185-F/C-89, college: St.John's) contributed 11 points for the winners. Rhonda John-Davis (165-F/G-78) replied with 9 points for Trinidad and Tobago. Shakira Clarke and Rhea Codio netted 5 points each in the loss.

Group A
Dominican Republic - Bahamas 69-70 OT
Bahamas earned the first victory at the CBC Championship. They upset Dominican Republic in overtime to gain 1-1 record in Group A. Jonquell Jones (193-F) stepped up with 23 points and 27 rebounds. Bahamas got to a confident start. They established a 20:13 lead after ten minutes. Dominican Republic narrowed the deficit in the second term. They pulled within 3 points at halftime 27:30. Bahamas stretched the gap at 9-point mark heading into the fourth stanza. But Dominican Republic bounced back with a 20:11 run in the fourth frame to force overtime. Sweeting sank two free throws late in the extra period to seal the win for Bahamas. Shanea Ambrister tallied 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Leashia Grant had 10 points and 13 boards in the win. Jennifer Estrella (183-G-88) responded with 14 points for Dominican Republic. Andreina Paniagua (191-F-78) had 13 points in the loss.

U.S. Virgin Islands - Barbados 83-65
Virgin Islands claimed the second consecutive victory at the CBC Championship. They outscored Barbados to stay on top of Group A at 2-0 record. Natalie Day (182-G/F-90, college: Portland) stepped up with 25 points and 8 rebounds to pace the winners. Virgin Islands held their opponents to just 4 points in the first period to gain a 10-point lead. They boosted the lead to as many as 15 points at the interval 38:23. Virgin Islands netted 34 points in the third term to clear off for good. Tanecka Carey (175-G-91) chipped in 23 points, while Sherelle George had 7 points for the winners. Dale-Marie Cumberbatch (180-F-88) responded with 28 points and 10 rebounds for Barbados. Toni Atherley had 18 points in the loss.

Group B
Jamaica - Saint Vincent 55-22
Jamaica improved at 2-0 record at the start of the CBC Championship. They knocked down Saint Vincent to climb on top of Group B. Shenneika Smith (185-F/C-89, college: St.John's) netted 12 points to pace the winning side. Jamaica eked out a 9:6 lead after a slow first quarter. They stepped on the gas in the second period. Jamaica boosted the lead to as many as 12 points at the big break 25:13. Jamaica triggered a 22:4 run in the third term to secure a comfortable 30-point lead before the fourth frame. Jamaica never looked back afterwards. Sasha Dixon (167-G-87) had 10 points, while Jennifer George added 8 points for the winners. Vasha Adams (F/C-83) answered with 11 points for Saint Vincent. Suzette Jackson had 5 points in the defeat.

Trinidad and Tobago - Guyana 96-33
Trinidad and Tobago earned the second straight victory at the CBC Championship in Tortola. They fired past Guyana to remain unbeaten. Rhea Codio (165-G-88) scored 15 points to pace the winners. Trinidad and Tobago claimed a 17:10 lead after the opening quarter. They stretched the gap in the second term. Trinidad and Tobago accounted for a 35:19 halftime lead. Trinidad and Tobago exploded with 61 points in the second half and cruised to the victory. Rhonda Davis and Joelisa Cooper (F) added 13 points each for Trinidad and Tobago. Natasha Alder (180-F) responded with 14 points for Guyana. Ginelle Ifill tossed in 6 points in the loss.

Dominican Republic coasted past Barbados in the opening game of the CBC Championship in Tortola. Marlem Caceres (88) scored 16 points to pace the winners.
Dominican Republic raced to a 21:8 lead after the opening frame. They ensured a 37:13 halftime advantage. Dominican Republic stayed in charge throughout the second half. They unloaded 49 points in the half to seal the victory. Yamel Abreu (95) and Melissa Santos netted 12 points each for Dominican Republic. Dale-Marie Cumberbatch (180-F-88) connected for 18 points for Barbados. Ashlee Daniel had 7 points in the loss.

US Virgin Islands - Bahamas 56:51
US Virgin Islands ensured the winning outcome in their first game at the CBC Championship. They prevailed against Bahamas. Natalie Day (182-G/F-90, college: Portland) scored 17 points and grabbed 17 rebounds for the winners. US Virgin Islands rallied to a 14:5 lead after the opening frame. Bahamas cut the deficit in the second period. They pulled within 6 points at halftime 20:26. Bahamas denied the deficit in the third term. They secured a one-point lead heading into the fourth frame. But US Virgin Islands ignited a 21:15 run in the final quarter to escape with a narrow win. Tanecka Carey (175-G-91) had 14 points, while Lanese Bough (178-G-93) produced 12 in the victory. Shanea Armbrister responded with 17 points for Bahamas. Jonquell Jones chipped in 15 points in the loss.

Group B
Trinidad and Tobago - Saint Vincent 57:43

Trinidad and Tobago got to the winning start of their CBC Championship campaign. They overcame Saint Vincent and Grenadines in the opener. Samantha Wallace connected for 11 points and 7 rebounds in the victory. Saint Vincent secured a 13:8 lead ten minutes into the game. But Trinidad and Tobago went on a 25:10 run in the second period to ensure a 33:23 halftime lead. The margin grew at 20-point mark at the final intermission. Saint Vincent cut the distance in the fourth frame but could not avoid the defeat. Joelisa Cooper (F) and Rhea Codia provided 9 points each for Trinidad and Tobago. Shavern Weekes (168-G-86) responded with 13 points for Saint Vincent. Vasha Adams (F/C-83) had 10 points in the defeat.

Jamaica - Guyana 86:26
Jamaica led from start to finish en route to the opening victory at the CBC Championship. They denied Guyana in Group B. Shenneika Smith (185-F/C-89, college: St.John's) netted 16 points in the victory.
Jamaica fired 19 points in the first period to take a 13-point lead. Jamaica went on a 29:5 run in the second term to ensure a comfortable 48:12 halftime advantage. Jamaica controlled the game in the second half cruising to a comfortable victory. Jennifer George (183-F, college: Florida) had 13 points and 14 rebounds, while Loreta Gordon added 12 points in the victory. Shakeila Sampson and LaToya Rodney replied with 6 points each for Guyana.
