 In the last round of of the Clausura Tournment, Coopenae Liceo de Costa Rica managed to defeat Ferreteria Brenes Barva, at the end of a true battle, 113-106 after two overtimes (the regulatione had ended 84-84 and the first overtime 95-95). As usual, the main performer in Liceo was Henry Martinez (186-G/F-75, agency: Interperformances), with 29 points. Thanks to this win Liceo confirms his role of main challenger of Barva for the 2008 title.

 Reigning champions of Ferreteria Brenes Barva are yet undefeated after eight rounds of the Clausura Tournment of the National League-First Division. In the last game, they defeated 107-77 San Luis Gonzaga, led by Isaac St.Rose (190-G-84, college: John Brown), who scored 19 points, while Darrell St.Rose (-F/C-88) scored 23 pts in San Luis.

 After 5 rounds of regular season in the Clausura Tournment, Ferreteria Brenes Barva, Liceo de Costa Rica and Santa Cecilia are yet unbeaten, while most of the opponents have yet suffered at least one loss.

 One week ago restarted the Costarican Firs Division, with the so-named Clausura Tournment. The following ones are some of the first games results: Cooepenae Liceo de Costa Rica defeated Coyotes de Santa Ana, 118-54, thanks to 22 points from newly added Henry Martinez (186-G/F-75, agency: Interperformances). Santa Cecilia prevailed over BCR Colono Limon, 72-88, with Delio Brenes (182-F-71) scoring 19 pts in Santa and Winston Campbell (187-G-70) scoring 17 in Limon.

 Ferretera Brenes Barva swept the Final Series 2-0, defeating two times Liceo de Costa Rica, becoming the Apertura Champion 2008. Barva triumphed in Game 1 83-85 on the road the past friday night and largely won Game 2 yesterday at home, 85-67. Isaac St.Rose (190-G-84, college: John Brown) was the game top performer at 31 pts, Alonso Sanchez (174-G-85) scored 19 points in Liceo.

 As it was easy to expect, both Liceo de Costa Rica and Ferreterias Brenes Barva easily won the semifinals 2-0, advancing to the Apertura Finals. The best two teams of the last five seasons will prolong their rivalry starting from tonight, at 7 pm in the Gimnasio Nacional, the home of Liceo. Game 2 will be played on Sunday, at 6 pm, at the Palacio de los Deportes of Barva, where will be played also Game 3, if necessary, the next Wednesday.

 At the end, the team Coopealianza UNA Perez Zeledon wans' t able to host the single Quarterfinal game vs. Ferreterias Brenes Barva, sadly leaving them to advance to the Semifinals, to meet Santa Cecilia. Game 1, played two nights ago, ended 90-75 for Barva, with Isaac St.Rose (190-G-84, college: John Brown) scoring 25 in Barva and Ivan Jaen (201-C-66) leading the way at 26 in Santa Cecilia.

 Ferreteria Brenes Barva and Coopealianza UNA Perez Zeledon will play tonight at the Palacio de los Deportes to decide who will advance to the semifinals. The officials of Liga de Baloncesto Superior (LBS) decided to replace the playoff sereis, delayed due to the inclement weather caused by Hurricane Alma, with an unique game. No doubt that the favourite is Barva, that, in case of win, will meet Santa Cecilia on friday night for the first semifinal game.

 While Barva and Perez Zeledon are yet waiting to start their series, all the teams winner in Game 1 advanced to the semifinals. Liceo defeated San Luis Gonzaga 79-71 in Game 2 of the Quarterfinals with Kendrick Jones (190-G-83, college: Columbus St.) leading again the way at 33 points and Alejandro Grijalba (187-F-82) scoring 25 in losing effort.
