U17 Puerto Rico - U17 Mexico 63-44
Puerto Rico won the Gold in Gurabo. They cruised past Mexico 63-44 in the Big Final to end U17 CentroBasket undefeated. Silver belongs to Mexico. Diamalises Rivera Barcelo stepped up for the host of this event with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Aleana Lyd Leon Garcia had 13 points and 6 boards, while Krystal Luciano Mendez added 11 points, 6 boards and 7 assists. In the loosing squad, Narda Valeria Salceda Jimenez collected 12 points and 6 rebs. Meliza Raquel Ramirez Casillas, Maria Begona Faz Davalos and two more players in Mexico scored 6 points each. Quarters: 18-9, 15-11, 17-12, 13-12. Puerto Rico won the Preliminary Group B with perfect 3-0. After that they eliminated Dominican Republic 59-43 in the Semifinals.

U17 Dominican Republic - U17 Bahamas 80-46

Dominican Republic won the Bronze at the U17 CentroBasket in Gurabo. They destroyed Bahamas on Sunday to finish as No.3. On the other side, Bahamas stays without the medal. Yamel Vanessa Abreu Alvarez stepped up for the winners with 26 points and 5 rebounds. Frabel Feliz Rodriguez had 17 points and 14 boards, while Anyelina Santos Rosario added 12 pts and 9 rebs. In Bahamas, Brea Forbes collected 19 pts and 6 rebs. Their second scorer was Taneka Kristine Sandiford. Dominican Republic took control on Bahamas from the very beginning. They made 25-8 lead in the first ten minutes and were looking comfortable. Until the halftime Dominican Republic jumped to 40-16 and the game winner was already known. Second half was just the formality and Dominican Republic had no troubles to win the Bronze.

U17 US Virgin Islands - U17 Guatemala 48-72
Guatemala finished U17 CentroBasket as No.5. They celebrated 72-48 win against US Virgin Islands in the last day of the championship in Gurabo. US Virgins Islands ended as the sixth ranked team. Guatemala shined in the second and third quarter, what was enough for the victory in this meeting. Emily Rosales Quan exploded with 22 points and 23 rebounds for the winners. Angelica Maria Jose Cardenas Lantan had 22 points and 6 assists, while Virginia Blanca Argentina Pinto Trujillo added 10 points and 6 rebs. In defeat, Shaquana Quanae Iona Foy top-scored with just 11 points. Edidiong Beulah Utibe had 8 points and the same number of boards. US Virgin Islands managed to resist just in the first period, which still belonged to Guatemala 14-15. Guatemala made 13-21 for the next ten minutes and blasted Guatemala 6-20 in Q3. Last period was just the formality and Guatemala won this game with comfortable 72-48.

Mexico and Puerto Rico to fight for the Gold - Jul 17, 2011

SEMIFINALS

U17 Mexico - U17 Bahamas 85-33
Mexico advanced to the Big Final of U17 CentroBasket in Gurabo. They destroyed Bahamas in the Semifinals with huge 85-33. In the other Semifinals game, Puerto Rico was better than Dominican Republic 59-43, so Mexico will meet Puerto Rico in the battle for Gold. Bahamas will play against Dominican Republic for third place. Ana Karen Bernal Armendariz stepped up for Mexico in this game with double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds. Nohemi Lopez Arguello had 13 points and 6 assists, while Maria Begona Faz Davalos added 12 points and 10 rebs. In Bahamas, Brea Forbes responded with 11 points and 7 rebs. Their second scorer was Raven Thompson with only 6 points. It is important to mention that Bahamas was scoreless for the entire first quarter, while Mexico drained 30 points on the other side. Quarters: 33-0, 14-4, 19-9, 19-20.

On the other side, Dominican Republic will play against Bahamas for third place. Diamalises Rivera Barcelo came up with 15 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Aleana Lyd Leon Garcia had 10 points and 6 boards, while Claudia Alejandra Ortiz Ledesma added 9 points. In the loosing squad, Cheisy Carolay Hernandez collected 13 points and 5 rebs. US Virgin Islands registered their second victory in Gurabo. It was the first game of the Classification Round and US Virgin Islands made a step forward to fifth place at U17 CentroBasket. In order to win it, they will have to beat Guatemala today. On the other side, Cayman Islands ended as the last ranked team at this event. Edidiong Beulah Utibe exploded with monster double-double of 33 points and 26 rebounds for the winners. J'Lene Ebone Martinez scored 13 points, while Merissa Murphy added 12 points and 12 boards. In Cayman Islands, La-Torae Joan Nixon collected 20 points and 8 rebounds. Felicia Janelle Connor (7 rebs) and Rochel Gabrela Gardener scored 8 and 6 points respectively. Quarters: 4-17, 7-17, 14-23, 17-23.

Mexico won the first place in Group A. They handed 70-56 loss to Dominican Republic ending the Preliminary Round in Gurabo with perfect 2-0. Mexico will meet Bahamas in the Semifinals. On the other side, Dominican Republic also advanced to Semis, but as No.2 of this pool (1-1 record). Their rival will be the host of U17 CentroBasket - Puerto Rico. Ana Karen Bernal Armendariz was the leading player in victory with double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds. Narda Valeria Salceda Jimenez had 14 pts, 5 rebounds and 9 assists, while Nohemi Lopez Arguello also helped Mexico with 14 points. In defeat, Cheisy Carolay Hernandez top-scored with 17 pts. Yamel Vanessa Abreu Alvarez had 14 points and 6 rebounds, and Frabel Feliz Rodriguez added 13 points, plus 11 boards. Quarters: 24-11, 12-9, 17-13, 17-23.

Of course, Puerto Rico advanced to Semifinals and they will meet Dominican Republic. On the other side, US Virgin Islands dropped to 1-2 and finished as the last ranked of this group. They failed to reach the next stage and will be transferred to Classification Games from 5th to 7th place. Diamalises Rivera Barcelo shined for the winners with 22 points and 6 rebounds. Aleana Lyd Leon Garcia scored 13 points and Claudia Alejandra Ortiz Ledesma added one less than her. In US Virgin Islands, Edidiong Beulah Utibe collected 16 points and 16 boards. There is three-way-tie on the second place in Group B with Bahamas, Guatemala and US Virgin Islands all having 1-2 record. In that circle, Bahamas has the best score and they ended as No.2 in this pool. Guatemala is No.3, while US Virgin Islands ended as the last ranked team in this group. Bahamas will meet Mexico in the Semifinals. On the other side, Guatemala will be transferred to Classification Games from 5th to 7th place. Taneka Kristine Sandiford stepped up for Bahamas in this game with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Kaylicia Laing secured a great help adding 13 pts and 11 rebs. On the other side, Cayman Islands dropped to 0-2. They will continue in Classification Round from 5th-7th place. Maria Begona Faz Davalos stepped up for the winners with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Daniela Maria Soto Gomez followed her with 15 points and 5 rebs, while Meliza Raquel Ramirez Casillas added 14 points and 9 boards. In the loosing squad, La-Torae Joan Nixon shined with double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds. Their second scorer was Chloe Angelica Powery with only 6 pts. Quarters: 36-3, 20-9, 22-11, 18-8. On the other side, Bahamas dropped to 1-2 but still has a chance to reach the Semifinals. Edidiong Beulah Utibe was totally the best player in this game. She registered monster double-double of 27 points and 23 rebounds for the winners. Kadesfha Barry and Shaquana Quanae Iona Foy helped with 7 points each. In defeat, Raven Thompson collected 18 points and 7 rebs. Kaylicia Laing had 11 points and 6 boards, while Brea Forbes stopped to 10 pts. Quarters: 14-17, 16-12, 14-20, 16-10. On Friday, US Virgin Islands will meet Puerto Rico. Bahamas will meet Guatemala in do-or-die game.

Thanks to this win, Puerto Rico already secured a spot for the Semifinals. Guatemala dropped to 1-1 and still has a chance to reach the next stage. They will have to beat Bahamas today. Diamalises Rivera Barcelo stepped up for the winners with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Aleana Lyd Leon Garcia scored 13 pts and Mileyshka Marie Correa Lema added 10 points, plus 6 boards. In Guatemala, Nancy Gabriela Izaguirre Rivera had 7 points and 7 rebounds, while Angelica Maria Jose Cardenas Lantan stopped to 4 pts and 5 rebs. Quarters: 3-26, 23-8, 16-8, 13-11. Dominican Republic took control on Cayman Islands from the very beginning and never looked back after that. Frabel Feliz Rodriguez stepped up for the winners with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Cheisy Carolay Hernandez had 22 points and 7 rebounds, while Yamel Vanessa Abreu Alvarez was very close to triple-double: 18 points, 14 rebounds and 9 as. In defeat, La-Torae Joan Nixon collected 15 points and 12 boards. Amber Leann Watson had 13 pts and 6 boards, while Rochel Gabrela Gardener stopped to 5 pts. Quarters: 11-27, 27-14, 28-8, 31-8. Guatemala had wonderful beginning as they made 29-11 lead in the first ten minutes. They continued with 14-11 in Q2 for plus 21 at that half time. US Virgin Islands improved after that breather, but their deficit was too big. Emily Rosales Quan shined for the winners with 29 points and 5 rebounds. Elliette Mabel Quiroa Hernandez scored 12 points and Nancy Gabriela Izaguirre Rivera added 11 pts, plus 5 rebs. In the loosing squad, Kadesfha Barry collected 10 points and 7 rebs. Merissa Murphy scored 9 points and pulled down 20 rebounds. Quarters: 29-11, 14-11, 17-17, 11-21.

Puerto Rico demonstrated great performance in the opening day of U17 CentroBasket in Gurabo. The hosts of this event smashed Bahamas 101-30 for 1-0 score in Group B. Puerto Rico dominated in all basketball elements against Bahamas. They started with impressive 5-29 in the first quarter and continued with 14-30 in Q2. Nothing has changed after that as Bahamas were simply too week to reply. Puerto Rico made 4-24 in third and 7-18 in the last period for the final 30-101 blowout. Diamalises Rivera Barcelo came up with 15 points and 8 rebounds for the hosts. Daneichka Enid Canales Maldonado had 12 points and 5 as, while Krystal Luciano Mendez added 11 pts and 9 assists. In Bahamas, Taneka Kristine Sandiford had double-double with 15 points and 10 rebs. Their second scorer was Kaylicia Laing with 8 pts.
