Puerto Rico - Dominican Republic 58-85
Dominican Republic clinched the Golden medals at the U17 Centrobasket tournament. They defeated hosting Puerto Rico in the championship game. Yerri Flores (188-PG-96) posted 18 points to lead the winners. Dominican Republic claimed a 23:12 lead ten minutes into the game. The visitors stretched the gap in the second quarter. They accumulated a 49:24 halftime lead. Dominican Republic extended their lead in the third term. The dominance grew at 33-point mark at the final intermission. Puerto Rico outscored their opponents in the fourth frame but just sweetened the pill at the end. Andres Feliz (183-SG-97) and Jhonatan Araujo (201-C-96) nailed 15 points each for the winners. Alex Ramos (185-SG-97) answered with 12 points for Puerto Rico. Jose Morales and Ivan Gandia had 10 points each in the losing case.

3rd place
Mexico - U.S. Virgin Islands 62-60
Mexico stepped onto the pedestal at the U17 Centrobasket tournament. They snatched a tough win over US Virgin Islands to qualify for the 2014 U18 FIBA Americas Championship. Osmar Garcia (PG-97) posted 20 points to lead the winners. Mexico eked out a 12:10 lead after the starting quarter. Mexico dominated throughout the second term. They accounted for a 31:22 halftime advantage. Mexico boosted the gap in the third term. They recorded a 48:37 advantage heading into the fourth period. US Virgin Islands went on a furious comeback effort in the final stanza but came up just short of victory at the end. Jeffry Suarez (SG-96) had 13 points, while Alvaro Mendoza chipped in 9 points in the win. Jordan Murphy (193-C-97) answered with 19 points and 14 boards for US Virgin Islands. Rashawn Fredericks netted 11 points in the loss.

5th place
Bahamas - El Salvador 71-49
Bahamas clinched the victory on the final day of the U17 Centrobasket. They defeated El Salvador to occupy the fifth overall position. Jordan Wilson (193-PF-96) nailed 16 points and grabbed 12 boards for the winners. Bahamas and El Salvador exchanged baskets throughout the opening quarter. They were tied at 16-all after ten minutes. Bahamas pulled ahead in the second frame. They sneaked to a 28:23 halftime lead. Bahamas extended their margin in the third term. They accumulated a 15-point lead at the final intermission. Bahamas unloaded 25 points in the fourth term and sealed the winning outcome. Rashad Davis (185-SF-97) chipped in 13 points for Bahamas. Leonardo Hernandez (177-SG-97) answered with 22 points for El Salvador. Rodrigo Gutierrez, Amilcar Regalado and Omar Coreas had 6 points each in the defeat.

7th place
British Virgin Islands - Costa Rica 63-71
British Virgin Islands celebrated the first win at the U17 Centrobasket. They defeated Costa Rica to clinch the 7th overall place. Stephon Caul (185-PF-98) stepped up with 31 points and 10 rebounds to pace the winners. Costa Rica gained a 24:21 lead after ten minutes of action. British Virgin Islands improved their performance in the second quarter. They surged ahead for a 42:39 halftime lead. Costa Rica erased the deficit and entered the fourth term up by one point. However British Virgin Islands erupted for 27 points in the final stanza and sealed the win at the end. Terique Wattley (183-PG-98) notched 22 points, while Kimron Telemaque contributed 16 points in the victory. Mario Herrera (174-PG-97) answered with 25 points for Costa Rica. Daniel Shedden had 17 points in the loss.


Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic enter the Final game - Aug 18, 2013

SEMIFINAL
Puerto Rico - Mexico 73-55
Puerto Rico advanced to the Final game of the Centrobasket U17. The hosts of the tournament overcame Mexico73:55 in the Semifinal clash and will take on Dominican Republic tomorrow in the Final. Mexico will play against U.S. Virgin Islands for the third place. Mexico entered the court motivated and created a 7-0 run in the first two minutes of the quarter. Puerto Rico managed to reply with some important baskets for 18:17 at the end of the first period. The hosts managed to win the second period and reached 38:34 at the halftime. In the third quarter the Puerto Ricans took a 15-point lead, thanks to the great performance from the center, Jose Arroyo who scored 8 points in the quarter. Puerto Rico added 16-13 rally at the end of the game for the final result. Arroyo Jose stepped up with 15 points and Gandia Ivan notched 11. Leandro Allende (190-F/G-97) delivered 9, while Ramos Alex had 8. Alvaro Mendoza (SF-96) ended up with 16 points in defeat, whilst Jeffry Suarez (SG-96) scored 10. Olalde Raul produced 9, while Garcia Osmar and Soto Victor shot 7 each.

Dominican Republic - U.S. Virgin Islands 84-36
Dominican Republic heads to the Final of the Centrobasket U17. They smashed U.S. Virgin Islands 84:36 in the Semifinal game and will take on Puerto Rico in the Final game tomorrow. U.S. Virgin Islands meanwhile will play against Mexico in the game for the third place. Dominican Republic scored the first 13 points in the game and erupted for 30:4 lead at the end of the first period. The favorites posted a 18-12 rally in the second period and enjoyed a 48:16 halftime advantage. Moreover the second half also belonged to Dominican Republic that won the third period 13-8 and then finished the game with 23-12 in the last stanza. Yerri Flores (188-PG-96) top-scored for the winners with 22 points and Francisco Oliver nailed 16. Rodriguez Jeromy collected 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Andres Feliz (183-SG-97) netted 8. Murphy Jordan delivered 9 points in a loss, while Adams Stephaun shot 7. Rashawn Fredericks (195-SF-97) ended up with 6 points and Colson Paul put up 5.

5-8 Places

Bahamas - British Virgin Islands 89-82
Bahamas outgun British Virgin Islands in Caguas at the Centrobasket U17. Bahamas posted an 89:82 win and will play for the 5th place tomorrow against El Salvador. British Virgin Islands meanwhile will take on Costa Rica in the game for 7-8 places. Bahamas produced a 23-13 rally at the start of the game and then added 26-23 before the halftime. British Virgin Islands looked better in the second half and managed to respond with two narrow victories. They won the third period 22-21 and finished the game with 24-19 run in the last stanza. It was not enough however to win the game as Bahamas outgun British Virgin Islands 89:82. Rashad Davis (185-SF-97) top-scored for the winners with 15 points and 21 rebounds and Charles Bain (195-PF-96) nailed 13, Wilson Jordan brought 12 points and 11 rebounds, whilst Gray Sebastian had 9. Telemaque Kimron ended up with 25 points in defeat, while Caul Stephon ended up with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Terique Wattley (183-PG-98) netted 15 and Dore Ja'Moi had 8.

El Salvador - Costa Rica 71-51
El Salvador defeat Costa Rica at the Classification Round of the Centrobasket U17. El Salvador needed a 71:51 win and will play for the 5th place tomorrow against Bahamas. Costa Rica meanwhile will take on British Virgin Islands in the game for the 7-8 places. El Salvador opened the game with 19-11 and led 7 points at the halftime. They managed to win both quarters in the second half and celebrated a 20-point victory. El Salvador won the third frame 24-19 and finished the game with 15-7 rally. Leonardo Hernandez (177-SG-97) top-scored for the winners with 25 points and Omar Coreas (192-C-97) collected 13 points and 11 boards. Rodrigo Gutierrez (175-PG-96) ended up with 12 points and 10 rebounds, whilst Regalado Amilcar had 10. Pearson Miguel produced 11 points in defeat and Marco Chacon (196-PF-97) added 9 points and 10 rebounds. Herrera Mario also scored 9, while Shedden Daniel had 7.

Group A
Mexico - British Virgin Islands 97-69
Mexico fired past British Virgin Islands to secure the semifinal appearance at the U17 Centrobasket tournament. Mexico will now take on Puerto Rico in the playoffs. British Virgin Islands slipped at 0-3 record in Group B. Mexico got to a very strong start. They poured in 33 points in the first ten minutes to accumulate a 22-point lead. The margin kept on growing throughout the second quarter. Mexico ensured a 55:22 halftime advantage. They erupted for 32 points in the third term and secured a 43-point lead before the fourth frame. British Virgin Islands went on a 25:10 run in the final period and trimmed the deficit at the end. Osmar Garcia (PG-97) nailed 20 points for Mexico. Jeffry Suarez (SG-96) had 17 points in the winning effort. Kimron Telemaque (175-PG-97) answered with 20 points for British Virgin Islands. Stephon Caul had 14 points in the loss.

El Salvador - Dominican Republic 23-81
Dominican Republic gained the third straight win at the U17 Centrobasket. They knocked down El Salvador to win Group B. Jeromy Rodriguez (198-PF-96) nailed 16 points to lead the winners. Dominican Republic clinched a 23:7 lead after the opening quarter. They stretched the gap in the second frame. Dominican Republic accumulated a 35:14 halftime advantage. The group leaders mounted the pressure in the second half. They jumped to a 34-point lead heading into the fourth frame and never looked back en route to the win. Oliver Francisco (188-SG-96) posted 14 points, while Jhery Matos and Cristian Duran had 10 points apiece for Dominican Republic. Rene Alas (186-PF-97) answered with 6 points for El Salvador as they finished at 1-2 record in Group B.

Group B
U.S. Virgin Islands - Costa Rica 78-58
US Virgin Islands will play in the semifinal of U17 Centrobasket tournament. They defeated Costa Rica to clinch the second position in Group A. Costa Rica on the other hand suffered the third straight defeat and remained at the bottom of the ladder. US Virgin Islands gained a 20:16 lead after the opening quarter. They stretched the gap in the second period. US Virgin Islands piled up a 44:33 halftime advantage. They stayed in front throughout the third term. The Virgin Islanders entered the fourth period up by 11 points. They held Costa Rica to 7 points in the final period and celebrated a key victory at the end. Jordan Murphy (193-C-97) came up with 24 points for US Virgin Islands. Jah-Gamba Felix (188-SG-96) netted 15 points for the winners. Miguel Pearson (178-PF-96) netted 25 points for Costa Rica. Daniel Shedden posted 12 points in the loss.

Puerto Rico - Bahamas 85-66
Puerto Rico clinched the second win at the U17 Centrobasket preliminary round. They knocked down Bahamas and finished on top of Group A. Puerto Rico will now take on Mexico in the semifinal. Bahamas suffered the first loss at the tournament and slipped to the third position in the standings. Bahamas jumped to an early lead. They recorded a 9-point advantage after ten minutes. Puerto Rico got within 3 points at halftime 31:34. The hosts erupted for 29 points in the third term to spur ahead. They registered a 60:53 lead heading into the fourth period. Puerto Rico dominated the game in the final period as they went on a 25:13 run and sealed the victory at the end. Jerron Love (175-PG-96) nailed 27 points, while Jose Arroyo (199-C-97) dropped 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the winners. Shakwon Lewis (178-PG-96) answered with 16 points for Bahamas. Jordan Wilson had 12 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.


Results from Day 2 in Caguas - Aug 16, 2013

Group A
El Salvador - Mexico 44-86
Mexico beat El Salvador to tie both records in Group A of the U17 Centrobasket. Mexico celebrated an 86:44 win in Caguas at the start of Day 2. Both teams scored 12 points each in the first period, while Mexico dominated the rest of the game. They posted a 23-11 surge in the second frame and took 12-point lead at the halftime. Mexico erupted with a 30-7 burst in the third period and increased to 35-point advantage after 30 minutes. Moreover they won the last stanza 21-14 and sealed an easy win. Tona Austreberto top-scored for the inners with 18 points and Alvaro Mendoza (SF-96) notched 15. Suarez Jeffry delivered 13, whilst Olalde Raul netted 12. Leonardo Hernandez (177-SG-97) ended up with 17 points in the losing effort and Alas Rene scored 9. Rodrigo Gutierrez (175-PG-96) ended up with 8, whilst Regalado Amilcar had 5.

Dominican Republic - British Virgin Islands 98-45
Dominican Republic improves to 2-0 record in Group A of the U17 Centrobasket. They overcame British Virgin Islands 98:45 in the start of the second day in Caguas. British Virgin Islands meanwhile fell at 0-2 record. Dominican Republic won the first period 15:10 and also allowed the opponents to post 10 points in the second frame. Dominican Republic meanwhile erupted with 26 and took 41:20 halftime advantage. The second half also belonged to the favorites that posted another two victories. Dominican Republic won the third quarter 30-16 and finished the game with 27-9 rally. Guillen Luis top-scored for the winners with 13 points and Jeromy Rodriguez (198-PF-96) as well as Flores Yerri had 12 each. Matos Jhery, Daniel Vitiello (178-PG-99) and Valera Elvin poured in 11 points each. Franklyn Penn (185-PG-97) replied with 16 points in a loss, whilst Layne Glenal had 9. Rodgers Relando followed them with 4 points in defeat.

Group B
Costa Rica - Bahamas 74-116
Bahamas leave no chance for Costa Rica in Day 2 of the U17 Centrobasket. Bahamas won 116:74 and improved to 2-0 record in Group B. Costa Rica meanwhile suffered their second loss and dropped at 0-2 record. Bahamas was the favorite of the game and started with 29:23 lead. They added 27-20 rally in the second period and had 56:43 at the halftime. Bahamas managed to score 30 points in the third and then the last period to ensure a comfortable win. Rashad Davis (185-SF-97) top-scored for the winners with 22 points and Gibson Qyemah netted 21. Shakwon Lewis (178-PG-96) delivered 19, whilst Bain Charles had 12. Daniel Shedden (190-PF-96) erupted with 32 points in defeat and Chacon Marco collected 16 points and 10 rebounds in a loss. Fonseca Jose poured in 10, whilst Pearson Miguel had 9.

Puerto Rico - U.S. Virgin Islands 84-90
U.S. Virgin Islands pip hosts in Day 2 of the U17 Centrobasket. They celebrated a 90:84 victory and improved to 1-1 record. Puerto Rico meanwhile suffered their first loss and also has the same record. U.S. Virgin Islands started well and grabbed 29:16 lead at the end of the first period. They however believed in the victory too early and needed a thriller to win the game. Puerto Rico won the second period 22-15 and added 22-18 run in the third quarter. U.S. Virgin Islands however managed to win the last stanza 28-24 and sealed the victory. Springer Nicholas stepped up with 24 points for the winners and Fredericks Rashawn delivered 22. Jordan Murphy (193-C-97) collected 18 points and 16 rebounds, while Felix Jah-Gamba added 10. Alex Ramos (185-SG-97) answered with high 29 points and Gandia Ivan notched 22. Morales Jose brought 9 and Gerardo Texeira (195-PF-97) had 8.

Group A
Mexico - Dominican Republic 53-73
Dominican Republic opened their U17 Centrobasket campaign in Puerto Rico with victory. They knocked down Mexican counterparts in the opening game in Group B. Jeromy Rodriguez (198-PF-96) stepped up with 17 points and 10 rebounds to pace Dominican Republic. Mexico got to a slightly better start. They eked out a 16:13 lead after ten minutes. But Dominican Republic bounced back in the second frame. They held Mexico to just 4 points in the period and raced to a 29:20 halftime lead. Dominican Republic unloaded 29 points in the third term and registered a 20-point lead before the fourth frame. They held Mexico at distance in the fourth frame cruising to the victory. Yerri Flores (188-PG-96) notched 11 points, while Andres Feliz, Jhonatan Araujo and Daniel Vitiello had 8 points each for the winners. Raul Olalde (PF-96) answered with 11 points for Mexico. Alvaro Mendoza chipped in 10 points in the loss.

British Virgin Islands - El Salvador 71-75
EL Salvador victoriously opened their U17 Centrobasket campaign. They defeated British Virgin Islands in Group B. Leonardo Hernandez (177-SG-97) stepped up with 31 points to pace the effort. El Salvador grabbed an 18:16 lead after ten minutes of action. They stretched the gap in the second frame. El Salvador accumulated a 42:32 halftime lead. British Virgin Islands cut the deficit in the third term. They got within 8 points at the final break. The Islanders got even closer in the fourth period but came up short of victory at the end. Rene Alas (186-PF-97) had 14 points and 12 boards, while Rodrigo Gutierrez added 13 points and 10 rebounds for El Salvador. Franklyn Penn (185-PG-97) answered with 15 points for British Virgin Islands. Terique Wattley had 14 points in the loss.

Group B
Bahamas - U.S. Virgin Islands 68-64
Bahamas recorded the first win at the U17 Centrobasket in Puerto Rico. They knocked down US Virgin Islands in the opener. Rashad Davis (185-SF-97) dropped 20 points to lead the charge. Bahamas had to recover after a slow start. Virgin Islands dominated in the first half. They registered a 17:11 lead after ten minutes. Virgin Islands stretched the gap at 12-point mark at halftime 39:27. But Bahamas slowly took over. They held their opponents to 10 points in the third period and narrowed the distance to just 3 points at the final intermission. Bahamas went on a 22:15 run in the fourth frame to snatch victory. Qyemah Gibson (198-SF-97) dropped 12 points, while Shakwon Lewis added 11 points in the victory. Rashawn Fredericks (195-SF-97) responded with 17 points for US Virgin Islands. Stephaun Adams had 11 points in the loss.

Costa Rica - Puerto Rico 49-96
Puerto Rico got to a flying start of their U17 Centrobasket campaign. They fired past Costa Rica to gain the initial win in Group A. The hosts were led by 16 points from Jerron Love (175-PG-96). Puerto Rico set the tone early in the encounter. They triggered a 23:8 run in the first frame. Puerto Rico increased the tempo in the second quarter. They unleashed 26 points and registered a 49:27 halftime lead. Puerto Rico held their opponents to 10 points in the third term and accumulated a 29-point advantage before the fourth period. The hosts never looked back coasting to the victory at the end. Ebube Ezegwula (200-PF-97) produced 12 points, while Israel Cruz and Alex Ramos added 11 points each in the win. Miguel Pearson (178-PF-96) responded with 18 points for Costa Rica. Daniel Shedden banked 13 points in the defeat.


Caguas invites to Centrobasket U17 - Aug 12, 2013

Caguas invites to Centrobasket U17 from 14th to the 18th of August in Puerto Rico. Eight teams will compete for the Gold medals, while three teams will qualify to the 2014 FIBA Americas U18 Championship.
Last time Puerto Rico won the Gold in Gurabo in 2011. The host of U17 CentroBasket cruised past Mexico 90-75 in the Finals to win the first place. Abdiel Badillo was a key player in victory with 27 points and 13 rebounds. He reached valuation 29 and was the MVP of this meeting. Jerome Caraballo had 14 pts and 13 rebs, while Esteban Cordero added 13 points in this victory.
This year Group A will consist of Dominican Republic, British Virgin Islands, El Salvador, Mexico. Group B will have Bahamas, United States Virgin Islands, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico.
