Roberto Carlos Herrera broke a 63-63 tie with 42 second left as Cuba took their third straight Centrobasket title.

  3rd Place Game Dominican Republic 86(44) - Panama 74(41) (Peterson 11, Greer 16, Lenderborg 4, Western 33, Ramirez 14, Paniagua 2, C. Martinez 6 - Gomez 19, Fiss 8, Garcia 9, Wallace 4, Myers 4, Cardenas 6, Daley 12, Garces 12)
Both teams qualify for the Tornament of the Americas in Puerto Rico in July, the Olympic Qualifying tourneament. Dominican Republic also qualifies for the Pan Am Games in Canada this summer.

Puerto Rico won the very tough semifinal game against Dominican Rep. 67-66, while Cuba defeated Panama 72-64 in the other semifinal.

Mexico will play Virgin Islands for 5th place, while Costa Rica will face Belize for 7th place.

Jose Ortiz collected his own rebound and scored the winning basket with eight seconds left. Soterio Ramirez had put the Dominican in front on the previous possession.

Finally the games between favorites. Cuba won against Dominican Rep. 70-66, and Puerto Rico defeated Panama 100-84.

The lack of pre-tournament practice really hurt Belize. In all three games they played a strong first half, but tired in the second half against better-conditioned opponents.

No surprises in the 2nd day of the tournament. Puerto Rico, Cuba, Panama and Dominican Rep. won another games.

In the first games seems that Puerto Rico and Cuba are the main favorites. But Panama and Dominican Rep. could be dangerous too.

Mexican NT falls to Panama 52-64 in their first game of Centrobasket in Cuba.
The Mexicans let an 8 point advantage go away at the begining of the second period to allow a 13-1 run for Panama at the game played on May 4. Mexico started with 17-year old Omar Quintero at the point, but was quickly substituted by veteran Oscar Castellanos, giving Mexico more mobility. Both teams' defenses were close, as the first half finished with a score of 27-26 for Panama. Mexico moved ahead, putting the score 46-40 in their favor, but a 13-1 run by Panama closed the score for them.
