Dominican Republic wins 2012 Centrobasket in Jose Miguel Agrelot coliseum in Hato Rey. The team overcame the hosts of the tournament in the Final game 80:72. Puerto Rico, meanwhile, won the silver medal and failed in his attempt to repeat the gold won in Santo Domingo 2010. The hosts started with 21:14 lead but could not keep the winning pace. Dominican Republic bounced back with 26-14 in the second period and took 50:45 halftime advantage. Puerto Rico needed 19-18 in the third stanza to reduce to 4 points, but failed to reach the opponents in the last period. Dominican Republic added 22-18 to seal the victory. Jack Michael Martinez (203-F/C-81, agency: Paris Global Sports) top-scored for the winners with 23 points and 11 rebounds, while Coronado Juan netted 17. Baez Eulis and Francisco Garcia (201-F/G-81, college: Louisville) followed them with 11 points each. Jose Juan Barea (181-PG-84, college: Northeastern) ended up with 18 points in the losing case and Santiago Daniel notched 16. Sanchez Ricardo poured in 15, while David Huertas (195-G-87, college: Mississippi) added 13.

Panama - Jamaica 54-78
Oritseweyinmi Efejuku (196-G-86, college: Providence) leads Jamaica to Bronze in Hato Rey at the Centrobasket 2012. He poured in 21 points as Jamaica overcame Panama 78:54. This is a historic medal for Jamaica, since it's getting the first medal in this tournament. Jamaca went on an early run and reached 25:17 after the first period. They added 14-13 in the second frame to take 39:30 at the halftime. With an 8-0 rally Jamaica put the score 58-39, while Josimar Ayarza (205-F-87, college: S.Mississippi) closed the frame at 58:41. It was clear at that time about the winner. Jamaica also won the last stanza 20-12 to take the bronze medals at the tournament. Jerome Jordan (213-C-86, college: Tulsa) collected 17 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and Samardo Samuels (206-F/C-89, college: Louisville) added 13. Oglivie Ernesto responded with 15 points and Ayarza notched 13. St. Rose Isaac delivered 11, whilst Daniel King (203-F-87) had 9.

Dominican Republic - Panama 79-62
Dominican Republic reaches the Final game of the 2012 Centrobasket. The favorite overcame Panama 79:62 and will face the hosts in the Final. Although Dominican Republic was the favorite of the game, Panama surprised them with 20:13 in the opening period. Even after a 15-9 burst in the second quarter, Dominican Republic trailed 1 point at the halftime. The second half however belonged to Dominican Republic that won the third and the last stanzas. They needed 25-17 in the third period and added 26-16 in the last. Garcia Francisco top-scored for the winners with 23 points and Alfred Horford (208-F/C-86, college: Florida) collected 17 points and 13 rebounds. Martinez Michael followed them with 11 points and 11 boards. Josimar Ayarza (205-F-87, college: S.Mississippi) replied with 19 points in the losing effort, while Munoz Joey, Daniel King (203-F-87) and St. Rose Isaac all posted 10.

Puerto Rico - Jamaica 103-89
Puerto Rico advanced to the Final at 2012 Centrobasket. The hosts outscored Jamaica 103:89 at the Jose Miguel Agrelot coliseum in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico. Jamaica started the game with 22-21 but could not keep the lead at the end of the half. The hosts erupted with a 30-24 burst and grabbed 5-point halftime advantage. Moreover Puerto Rico added 30-19 in the third quarter and did not mind the narrow loss in the last stanza. David Huertas (195-G-87, college: Mississippi) poured in 17 points, while Santiago Daniel collected 16 points and 11 rebounds. Rosario Michael, Franklin Alexander and Sanchez Ricardo followed them with 11 points each. Akeem Scott (186-PG-83, agency: Interperformances, college: High Point) responded with 19 points in the losing effort and Efejuku added 18. Samardo Samuels (206-F/C-89, college: Louisville) brought 17, whilst Jordan Jerome delivered 16. Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico will have tomorrow a new chapter in his extensive regional sports rivalry for the Gold medal. Jamaica, meanwhile, will face off with Panama for the bronze medal.

Bahamas - Nicaragua 116-62
Bahamas edged Nicaragua 116:62. Bahamas opened the game with 36:16 and was better in the second frame with 24:18. Moreover in the second half the favorites continued to dominate the court and won the third and the last stanzas. Mitchell Johnson (196-F-85, college: Jarvis Christian) exploded with 43 points to lead the winners and Coleby Kadeem posted 14. Taylor Gonzalez, Rudy ended up with 15 points in defeat, while Sloan Windell scored 13.

Panama - Cuba 94-66
Panama edged Cuba 94:66 and finished second in Group A. Cuba started with 22-20 after the first 10 minutes and led 1 point at the halftime. The second half however was dominated only by one team-Panama. They needed 26-15 in the third period and finished the game with 28-10 in the last stanza. Josimar Ayarza (205-F-87, college: S.Mississippi) paced all the winners with 23 points and Ernesto Oglivie (199-F-89) as well as Daniel King (203-F-87) netted 14 each. Luis Haiti Yoan responded with 19 points in the losing effort, while Torres Orestes added 14.

Costa Rica - Mexico 62-89
Mexico prevail over Costa Rica 89:62. Mexico started with 21-11 and added 23-16 in the second frame. The winners also won the third and the fourth quarters in the game to seal the last victory at the tournament. Hector Hernandez (206-F-85, college: Fresno St.) stepped up with 15 points and Paul Stoll (178-PG-85) added 13. Quesada Carlos relied with 14 points in the losing effort.

U.S. Virgin Islands - Dominican Republic 73-78
Dominican Republic pip Virgin Islands 78:73 to remain undefeated. They opened the game with 22-15 and added 23-19 in the second frame. Virgin Islands looked better in the second half and won both periods. It was not enough however to beat the winners of the group. Martinez Yack top-scored for the winners with 23 points and 11 rebounds, while Coronado Juan scored 18. Walter Hodge (183-PG-86, college: Florida) produced 18 points in defeat and Aska Ivan added 14.

Cuba - Puerto Rico 61-95
Puerto Rico overcame Cuba 95:61. The hosts easily reached 27-20 after the first 10 minutes and added 16-9 in the second frame. Moreover they won the third quarter 26-12 and finished the game with 26-20. Sanchez Ricardo stepped up with 13 points for the winners, while Peter John Ramos (222-C-85), Rosario Michael and Galindo Alexander had 12 each. Torres Orestes finished the game with 14 points in the losing effort.

Nicaragua - Panama 60-93
Panama clinch Semifinal birth at the Centrobasket 2012. The team overcame Nicaragua 93:60 in Day 4 of the Qualifying Round. Panama took 21:20 after the first period and added massive 31-30 in the second frame. They won also the third and the last stanza to seal the victory. Josimar Ayarza (205-F-87, college: S.Mississippi) erupted with 30 points and King Daniel added 14 points and 11 rebounds. Solis Walter replied with 17 points in the losing effort and Thomas Vansdell netted 13.
Group B
Mexico - Jamaica 74-76
In Day 4 Jamaica needed 76:74 win to take the second place in the group. They started with 19-18 and added massive 20-9 in the second frame. Both teams scored 15 points each in the third period and it was really hot in the court in the last stanza. Although Mexico won 32-22 the last period it was not enough to win the game. Samardo Samuels (206-F/C-89, college: Louisville) top-scored in the game for the winners.

Dominican Republic - Costa Rica 69-51
Dominican Republic overcame Costa Rica 69:51. They started with 24-14 and had 9-point advantage at the halftime. Dominican Republic won the third period 22-14 and finished the game with 9-8. Coronado Juan top-scored for the winners with 14 points and Asselin Joshua had 12. Clifford Smith (193-G-80, college: Barry) responded with 15 points in defeat, while Anderson Jefny notched 12.


Day 3 in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico - Jun 21, 2012

Puerto Rico - Nicaragua 107-67
Puerto Rico overcame Nicaragua in Day 3 of the 2012 Centrobasket. The home side exploded with a 107:67 victory. Puerto Rico was the favorite of the game and proved their ambitions from the very beginning. They started with 23:18 and never looked behind after. Moreover they erupted with 34-13 in the second period to take 57:31 halftime advantage. Puerto Rico easily added 31-13 in the third period and had achieved the biggest lead by Santiago's dunk at 97:48. The hosts did not have any difficulties to score three digits and ended up with 107 points. David Huertas (195-G-87, college: Mississippi) paced all the winners with 23 points and Rosario Michael nailed 22. Alexander Galindo (200-F-85, college: FIU) scored 17, while Garcia Angel added 13. Thomas Vansdell and Walter Solis (188-F-85) replied with 15 points each in defeat and Windell Sloan (195-F/C-87) had 10.

Panama - Bahamas 78-70
Panama defeated Bahamas in Hato Rey in Day 3 of 2012 Centrobasket. Panama celebrated a 78:70 victory for the first success at the tournament. After Bahamas defeated Cuba in the opening day lost last night against Puerto Rico and the reverse of today becomes the second in a row. Panama opened the game with 23:14 and led 8-point at the halftime. Bahamas won the second period 17-16 as the board showed 39:31. The latter also produced a 20-18 burst in the third quarter and reduced to 6 points before the final period. Panama however took off 73:58 after a 10-0 rally that ended with a free throw by Joel Thesis with 3 minutes remaining. Panama allowed the opponents to cut it to 8, but managed to win the game. Ayarza top-scored for the winners with 23 points and 11 rebounds, while Munoz Joel had 13. Isaac St. Rose delievered 12, whilst Daniel King (203-F-87) had 11. Smith Kentwan ended up with 18 points in defeat for 1-3 record. Mitchell Johnson (196-F-85, college: Jarvis Christian) nailed 11, while Cooper Leon scored 10.

Jamaica - Dominican Republic 64-80
Dominican Republic post the second straight win at the Coloseum Jose Miguel Agrelot in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico. The team overcame Jamaica 80:64 and stepped closer to qualify for the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship. Jamaica grabbed 21-19 lead at the end of the first period, but could not keep the lead for good. Dominican Republic managed to tie the score at the halftime and dominated the second half. They won the third period 21-11 and finished the game with 22-16 in the last stanza. Horford Alfred top-scored for the winners with 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Elpidio Fortuna (186-G-85) and Coronado Juan netted 19 each. Suero Angel added 8 points for the winners. Samardo Samuels (206-F/C-89, college: Louisville) and Efejuku replied with 15 points in the losing effort. Jerome Jordan (213-C-86, college: Tulsa) had 13, whilst Ewing Patrick nailed 10.

Costa Rica - U.S. Virgin Islands 64-92
Virgin Islands down Costa Rica for the initial success at 2012 Centrobasket. The winners needed a 92:64 win to take 1-2 record in the Jose Miguel Agrelot in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico. Virgin Islands grabbed the lead from the very beginning and never looked behind after. They added 20-14 in the second frame for 43:26 at the halftime. Moreover Virgin Islands won the third and the last quarters. They increased their lead to 28 points celebrating the initial victory. Walter Hodge (183-PG-86, college: Florida) paced all the winners with 25 points and Ivan Aska (200-F-90) notched 17. Jones Phillip collected 16 points and 15 rebounds, while Brown Aaron netted 14. Kay Martinez (198-G-84, college: Jackson St.) delivered 16 points in defeat, while Smith Clifford had 12. US Virgin Islands will rest tomorrow and return to court on Friday against the Dominican Republic. Costa Rica will face off with Dominican Republic tomorrow.


Day 2 in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico - Jun 20, 2012

Bahamas - Puerto Rico 71-88
Puerto Rico close Day 2 successfully as they edged Bahamas 88:71. The hosts of Centrobasket 2012 improved to 2-0 record in Group thanks to 88:71 win. Puerto Rico did not waste time and took 20:11 after the first 10 minutes. In the second period, both teams traded baskets through the early goings of the quarter, but the home side took the ascendency thanks to another 18-16 burst. In the second half, both sides traded baskets for the majority of the third quarter with Puerto Rico maintaining their advantage at 63:42. They did not mind 25-29 in the last stanza to win the second game. David Huertas (195-G-87, college: Mississippi) led the way with 21 points and Rivera Filiberto nailed 13. Sanchez Ricardo finished the night with 11 points, whilst Ubiles Edwin had 10. Gray Marvin delivered 14 points in the losing case and Rose Gamaliel poured in 13. Bennet Davis (206-F-84, agency: KMG Sports Management, college: Northeastern) finished the game with 11 points, while Cooper Leon scored 9.

Nicaragua - Cuba 47-80
Cuba spoiled Nicaragua's opener at the 2012 Centrobasket. Cuba improved to 1-1 record after 80:47 win in Day 2. Cuba started with 18:12 in the opening period and never looked behind after. The winners added massive 24-8 in the second period for 42:20 at the halftime. Moreover Cuba produced a 19-14 surge in the third frame and did not even think of slowing down. They finished the game with 19-13 in the last period to seal the victory. Lisvan Valdez (195-G/F-88) erupted with 34 points and 11 rebounds, while Yoannis Soria (196-G/F-86) netted 15. Orestes Torres (203-C-87) delivered 10 and Rodriguez Yaser scored 8. Vansdell Thomas (179-G-86) finished the game with 9 points in defeat and Sloan Windell notched 8.

Dominican Republic open the campaign with the win over Mexico. Dominican Republic celebrated a 85:67 victory in Day 2, while Mexico fell at 1-1. There was little to separate the teams during the initial exchanges. Mexico however started better and took 23:16 after the opening period. Dominican Republic meanwhile replied with 26-17 in the second frame and took 42:40 at the halftime. Later on they dominated the game in the court. For every bit as tired, lethargic and lacklustre Mexico looked, Dominican Republic were quite brilliant and it was their defence as well as offence which stood out. Dominican Republic won the third period 21-14 and added 22-13 in the last quarter. Alfred Horford (208-F/C-86, college: Florida) stepped up with 24 points for the winners, while Martinez Yack collected 18 points and 13 rebounds. Eulis Baez (201-F-82, college: W.Illinois) had 16 points and 10 boards and Coronado Juan had 12. Victor Mariscal (198-F-72) posted 17 points in defeat and Stoll Paul added 13.

U.S. Virgin Islands - Jamaica 64-80
Jamaica improved to 2-0 record in Group B at 2012 Centrobasket. The team overcame Virgin Islands 80:64 in Day 2 for a perfect record. Both teams nailed 16 points each in the first period. Virgin Islands dominated the second quarter and grabbed 3-point lead at the halftime due to 18-15 in it. Jamaica faithful were probably hoping it was just a nightmare quarter but it ended up being a nightmare half as things went from bad to worse. In the third period Jamaica erupted with 28-13 surge and took the lead for good. They added 21-17 in the last stanza to taste the second straight victory. Akeem Scott (186-PG-83, agency: Interperformances, college: High Point) top-scored for the winners with 23 points and Samuels Samardo nailed 20. Oritseweyinmi Efejuku (196-G-86, college: Providence) collected 17, while Ewing Patrick nailed 10. Hodge Walter replied with 20 points in the losing case and Aska Ivan scored 11.

Puerto Rico roll over Panama in Day 1 of the Centrobasket 2012. The hosts needed 92:60 win for an easy start. It was panama to start the game with seven consecutive points. . Alex Galindo responded with a three-points shot and jump shot and David Huertas with another three- point shot to tie the game. Both teams later nailed 17 points each before the end of the first quarter. Later on the court was dominated only by one team, Puerto Rico. They produced a 25-7 surge to take 17-point advantage at the halftime. Moreover the hosts won the third period 25-21 and added 25-15 in the last stanza. David Huertas (195-G-87, college: Mississippi) led the way with 16 points and Alexander Galindo (200-F-85, college: FIU) scored 12. Daniel Santiago (216-C-76, agency: Priority Sports, college: N.Mexico) netted 11, while Franklin Alexander delivered 10. Isaac St Rose replied with 15 points in the losing effort and Oglivie Ernesto had 12. Munoz Joel produced 11 and Tesis Joel added 9.

Cuba - Bahamas 68-80
Bahamas edged Cuba in their start of 2012 Centrobasket in Puerto Rico. Bahamas played better than the opponents and reached 80:68 win in the opener. Bahamas took 19:16 advantage after the first 10 minutes and stayed in front until the end of the half. They added 20-16 in the second frame and enjoyed 39:32 halftime advantage. Cuba meanwhile replied with 22-18 in the third period and reduced to 5 points after 30 minutes. Bahamas however finished the game with 23-14 in the last stanza and won the opener. Gray Marvin top-scored for the winners with 16 points and Bain nailed 10. Mitchell Johnson, Bennet Davis (206-F-84, agency: KMG Sports Management, college: Northeastern) and Cadeau posted 8 each. Perez Yudniel ended up with 19 points in the losing effort, while Haiti poured in 14.

Mexico - U.S. Virgin Islands 75-67
Mexico successfully starts the campaign of Centrobasket 2012. The team overcame Virgin Islands 75:67 for 1-0 record. Mexico opened the game with 17:16 but later started to increase the lead. They added 22-10 in the second period and led 39:26 at the halftime. Virgin Islands meanwhile responded with 17-14 in the third period and trailed 10 points after 30 minutes in the court. They produced a 24-22 last stanza win to reduce to 8. Stoll led the way with 23 points and Ayon collected 22 points and 15 rebounds. Walter Hodge (183-PG-86, college: Florida) replied with 18 points in defeat, while Jason Edwin (197-G/F-81, college: Kent St.) collected 14 points and 11 boards. Jamaica open the tournament with the win over Costa Rica. The Jamaican side celebrated 91:61 victory at the 2012 Centrobasket in Puerto Rico. Jamaica scored the first 15 points in the game and enjoyed 20:5 lead after the first 10 minutes. Moreover they added 19-16 in the second frame and had 18-point advantage at the halftime. In the third period Jamaica produced a 22-16 surge and increased to 61:37 after three quarters. Rose gave Jamaica the biggest led in the game, 84:53 as it was clear about the winner. Jamaica added 30-24 in the last stanza and sealed the victory in the opener. Oritseweyinmi Efejuku (196-G-86, college: Providence) paced all the winners with 18 points and Howell Dylan netted 16. Samuels Anthony posted 14, while Scott Akeem and Ffriend Kimani delivered 11 points each. Clifford Smith (193-G-80, college: Barry) ended up with 17 points in defeat and Carlos Quesada (198-C-85) notched 11.
