In day 1 of Group C, Deportes Castro lost against the host, Penarol Mar del Plata 86-75. Despite the good scoring performance of shooting guard Gonzalo Velasquez (185-G-81) and the help from the foreign players (Richard,Clay and Cann combined for 45 points), the level of talent of the argentinean champions was too much for the chilean champion. The lack of second chances (only three offensive rebounds) the turnovers (18) and the poor free throws percentage (4-13 31%) were key factors in the defeat of Deportes Castro.

Venezuelan Swingman Francisco Centeno (201-F/G-85) had an amazing evening in the last round for AB Ancud, receiving a Latinbasket.com Player of the Week award for round 31. The 31-year old player was the main contributor (33 points, nine rebounds) to his team's victory, helping them to edge out Puerto Montt (#7, 14-16) 73-70. AB Ancud maintains the 4th position in Chilean Liga Nacional. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. AB Ancud will need more victories to improve their 19-13 record. In the team's last game Centeno had a remarkable 66.7% from 2-point range. He turned to be AB Ancud's top player in his first season with the team. Francisco Centeno has solid league stats. He is in league's top in points (8th best: 20.7ppg) and averages impressive 60.1% FGP.
The second best player in last round's games was 27-year old American Dwight McCombs (203-F-89) of CDE Talca. McCombs had a very good evening with a double-double of 28 points and 14 rebounds. Of course he led CDE Talca to another comfortable win 83-70 over the lower-ranked Puente Alto (#10, 11-21) being unquestionably team leader. CDE Talca's 6th position in the standings has not changed. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 17-13 record is not bad and everything may still change. McCombs is well-known at CDE Talca and is a proven leader in his second season with the team. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 20.9ppg (#7). He also registered 13.6 boards per game.
Third on the list of top players last round was Argentinian Juan Luis Abeiro (196-C/F-88) of Tinguiririca S.F. (#11). Abeiro showcased his all-around game by recording 23 points, seven rebounds and four assists in the last round. Despite Abeiro's great performance Tinguiririca S.F. lost 75-80 to the higher-ranked CDU Concepcion (#3, 20-10). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Tinguiririca S.F. can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 9-23 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Abeiro he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Abeiro has individually a great season in Chile. After 32 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 25.8ppg (4th best) and rebounds with 11.4rpg (8th best).

We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
