The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Los Leones (14-4) in Quilpue on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by fifth ranked AB Ancud (10-10) 91-85. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Los Leones. AB Ancud made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. 24 personal fouls committed by Los Leones helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American forward Reginald Larry (198-86, college: Boise St., agency: Pro Sports) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds. Venezuelan swingman Francisco Centeno (201-85) contributed with 19 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. American swingman Brandon Bowdry (200-88, college: E.Michigan, agency: Inception Sports) answered with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds for Los Leones. AB Ancud have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place. Los Leones at the other side still keep top position with four games lost. AB Ancud will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Los Leones will play on the road against Universidad de Concepcion and are hoping to win this game.
The game in Puente Alto was also worth to mention about. Seventh ranked Universidad de Concepcion (7-6) played at the court of 8th ranked Puente Alto (6-11). Universidad de Concepcion did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 82-63. American center Paul Harrison (203-89, college: N.Greenville) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds for the winners and Carlos Lauler chipped in 15 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Venezuelan guard Jovanni Diaz (195-92) responded with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Universidad de Concepcion. They maintain seventh place with 7-6 record. Puente Alto at the other side keeps the eighth position with 11 games lost. Universidad de Concepcion will play against league's leader Los Leones in Quilpue in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Puente Alto will play at home against Universidad Catolica (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Worth to mention about the upset in a game between Espanol de Talca (9-5) and Tinguiririca S.F. (4-15), which took place in San Fernando. Higher ranked Espanol de Talca lost to ninth ranked Tinguiririca S.F. in a road game 70-79. The best player for the winners was Juan Luis Abeiro who had a double-double by scoring 24 points, 22 rebounds and 4 assists. Tinguiririca S.F.'s coach Cipriano Nunez allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Tinguiririca S.F. maintains ninth place with 4-15 record, which they share with CDU Catolica. Espanol de Talca at the other side keeps the fifth position with five games lost. Tinguiririca S.F.'s next round opponent will be again higher ranked Espanol de Talca (#5) on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.

In the last two games of round 17 Osorno beat Puerto Montt on the road 73-66. CDU Catolica lost to CD Castro on its own court 76-86.


CD Valdivia - Las Animas 95-96

A very close game took place in Valdivia between Las Animas and Deportivo Valdivia. Sixth ranked Las Animas (9-8) got a very close victory on the road over 11th ranked Deportivo Valdivia (9-6).
